If I had to choose between a Graphite Rod and a Composite Rod For Jerkbait Fishing which one would you use? They are both 6'6" Medium Rods, and I'm assuming that the Graphite would be more sensitive than Composite, right? But do I want more or less sensitive? For specifics it's between a 6'6" Medium Berkley Lightning Rod (Graphite) and a Medium Berkley Cherrywood HD (Composite). They both have the same style of guides. I know they aren't your expensive Loomis Rods, but they are what I have to work with.

Thanks,

Jakob

I like a composite rod as long as it has enough tip to move the jerkbait with small rod movements.  I have a Powell Jerkbait rod and its a composite.  Ive used many rods until I found the composite and Im not going back.

It's a medium action , and has a good bit of tip action to it. My dad uses his as a crankbait rod, its got some good give to it. Looks like I will give it a try and see if I like the composite!

I would look at the power of the individual rods. I know they are both mediums, but the Lightning Rod is a pretty stiff rod, IIRC. I like a rod with a little power in the tip, that makes it easier for me to make a jerk bait "dance". A really limber rod works me to death fishing a jerkbait, lol. But, I think though that the Lightning Rod, being stiffer, will end up with some lost fish due to jerkbaits being treble hook lures. For me a jerkbait rod is something with a little more power than a crankbait rod, but not as stiff as, say, a spinnerbait or worm rod. From handling both in the stores, I think the Cherrrywood would give you enough tip to not work yourself too much getting the right action from a jerkbait, but not so stiff the hooks will pull out of the fish.

Alright, I'll take the Cherrywood out as part of my jerkbait setup and see how I like it! Thanks guys!
