Super User roadwarrior Posted November 29, 2014 Super User Posted November 29, 2014 The 2013 Iron Bowl will never be equaled. Now whenever someone from Alabama asks any question the initial response is always, "Just give me a second." Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 2006 BCS championship game Not even close, I'm not an SEC fan, or Alabama or auburn fan. But to win the game with one second on the clock by returning a missed FG 109 yards is crazy. The rivalry between the schools adds the extra dimension. The 2006 bcs game with 25 seconds on the clock doesn't earn even honorable mention. Personally I think the "immaculate reception" Franco Harris steelers is hard to beat. Quote
Missourifishin Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 It's always the one night of the year when I'm an Auburn fan. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Another play that was an awesome finish is Superbowl XXVII, Montana to Taylor back of end zone capping off a 92yd drive as time was running out to win the Superbowl. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Maybe not the finish we had hoped for, but as thrilling a finish as I can remember, especially given the political atmosphere of the cold war. 1972 Munich Olympic games. http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/09/25/the-most-controversial-game-endings-in-sports/slide/1972-olympics-u-s-vs-ussr-mens-basketball/ Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 And add to the list the Hodson to Fuller TD on the last play of the LSU-Ole Miss game in 1988. giving the Fighting Tigers a 7-6 victory over #3 Ole Miss. The crowd went nuts and set off the earthquake detectors. Quote
BassThumbAddict Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I remember 6 guys total called me when that play happened just to talk about what just happened. I don't think it'll ever be beat. Kick six baby. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2014 I've always thought this was one of the best last minute comebacks in sports. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 I will say that finish is in the top 10 or 5 or 3 of all time. And I'm not even a college football follower/fan. Almost any finish that is a last-seconds dagger in the heart of the opposing team is a tremendous finish. Steelers over Rams last second tippy toe catch in the end zone by Santonio Holmes. That was a dagger. Christian Laettner's last second fade away jumper... Etc. I've seen some unbelievable soccer finishes at last second that were spectacular. Quote

That was Superbowl XXIII, and that was actually an awful finish, if you happened to be a kid growing up in Cincinnati who dared to dream the impossible dream. Plus, I'm still haunted by the vision of Tim Krumrie's broken lower leg flopping around in slow-motion. Terrible game. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Yep, not so great if you were a Bengals/ Anderson/ Collinsworth fan...of course I was.. Uk fan too.. Christian L. Shot still stings, lol.. Bad defensive call by pitino... Great moments in sports! T. O. Was amazing.. Those were Bagleys squarebills as I recall.. Quote

It was an surreal moment in football. I also remember a snowy game in New England when the field crew swept off the spot for a last minute field goal. Now I have to go look up that play. Thinking it was a playoff game. Nope not a playoff, now called the snowplow game. Gave the patriots their first win of the year over Don Shula's dolphins. One off the dirtiest plays in NFL history Quote
Helluva_Engineer Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I'm a big fan of the ending of the Tech-Georgia game yesterday. 4th quarter starts tied 14-14 UGA kicks FG to make it 17-14 GT drives to make it 21-17 with ~4 min left GT recovers squib kick at the UGA 30, seem sure to win UGA recovers fumble, drives and takes the lead with 0:18 left in the game GT gets enough yards to kick a 53 yard field goal as time expires to send it to OT GT scores in the first period of OT, but the PAT is blocked GT intercepts a pass to end it.
