BammerBass Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Mine is a 19 lb carp caught when I was about 10 years old. Was fishing in a local creek and the particular location we were at had a nice deep hole to it where it was around 15-18 feet deep and the water was dingy. Had the tried and true zebco 33 on a medium action rod with 10 lb test. Was fishing for bluegill and had a steel bluegill/brim hook with the floater set to about a foot and a half above the hook. Next thing you know my dad says "thst ain't no bluegill at all right there" and sure enough she surfaced and we got s good look at her. She fought, and fought, and fought, and fought some more. Several times we would have her almost to the dip net, and she would take back off. Thought she was eventually going to break the line at some point, or surely break thst lil brim hook, but it all held true and we got her in and our buddy had a scale with him that day and it weighed about 19 1/4 lbs. It was about half as long as I was tall back then. And believe it or not, that little steel hook didn't even bend!!! That was a heck of a day. I've caught numerous carp in the 10-15 lb range ovrr at s nearby dam, and several, several 10-12lb channel catfish in my cousin's pond, but that carp beat em all. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 29, 2014 Super User Posted November 29, 2014 I've done a lot of offshore fishing and have caught numerous triple digit fish, I couldn't begin to list them all. Â I've got a time share in Cabo, fished other Pacific locations as well the Carribean. Â I have pretty much given up fishing charters with conventional gear. Now a days I get more personal satisfaction fishing spinning gear for the likes of bull dolphin, tarpon, permit, amberjack, on occasion the triple digit mark is surpassed. Â A few years ago I caught 2 back to back black tip shark 6-7' Â with a 8000 spheros reel, that beat the crap out of me. Â Thankful at 69 and 135# I can still do it. 2 Quote
riverbasser13 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 My first red, a 43 incher out of the mosquito lagoon. My buddy was out cast netting more mullet and when his drag took off I was closest, totally lucky and awesome. The crazy thing was a even bigger one followed him to the surface but wouldn't take the spook my buddy threw at him. Man I get stoked just replaying that trip in my mind, even the part where we got eaten alive by mosquitoes once the wind died down. Totally worth it though. Quote
BooyahMan Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Most memorable one is a Steelhead pushing 20lbs; hooked him in the middle of the river and had to try 3 times before I could land it. Have yet to come close to that since. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 14 lb, 32.25" striper at my favorite reservoir...  Where they don't stock the fish. So it was a super special catch for me, and probably my all time most memorable at this point.  But I did have fun on a deep sea trip back in the 90s catching 4' King Macks. Besides not keeping my stomach contents down.... Quote
RSM789 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 16 lb Channel catfish caught on cut mackeral while teaching my niece how to catch catfish. She hooked up a 2 lb fish and was reeling it in, listening to my superb coaching when one of the other lines began zipping off. So I'm fighting this fish, telling my niece to just keep her fish close to the dock without reeling all the way to the hook like beginners love to do. Chinese fire drill... Most interesting was the 12 lb catfish who decided the small jig with 4 lb test would make a tasty meal. Dragged me & my little boat all over the cove for about 20 minutes. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2014 I didn't have a scale big enough for any of them but it's one of these 3. 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Which fought harder the carp or catfish!?!? Lol... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2014 Which fought harder the carp or catfish!?!? Lol... The blue cat was the hardest fight of the 3. The carp didn't have much room because the pond it was in is very small. The blue cat was in fast current in the river and really gave me everything I could handle for about 20 minutes and then continued to kick my butt when I tried to drag it over the side of my boat. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 30 lb carp, a couple other 15-25lbers too  15 lb Pike, one of only three legit 10+ lbers I have caught, but my home lake is plum full of 7-9 lb fish. I caught three this fall flirting with 10lbs on the scale but didn't quite make it out of the high 9's. The older I get the more I like these fish. They strike hard, fight better than bass, and sometimes save the day when bass are not having it. Yeah...........they steal baits, so what, more are made everyday. When bass are not biting reaction baits, but pike are, I find it very hard to stop fishing for them, and when a bass does decide to play when the pike are chomping, it's usually a hog.  9 lb Walleye, I don't catch a lot of Walleye. They are all accidental catches while bass fishing. But Most of the ones I do catch are bigger than average.  I've caught a couple big drums/sheepshead while smallie fishing on Erie, but no weights were taken.  Never weighed any big perch, crappies, bluegills, etc.....but I have caught some large ones of each while bass fishing, especially crappies. Super User 00 mod Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Bass Resource Road Trip 2104 to Wilson Lake in Alabama. Deep cranking right near the water discharge and all of the sudden my crank stopped. Then took off. Figured I had a massive striper on as we even had to crank the motor to catch up. About 3/4 mile down river, we finally saw it surface, and oh my! No official weight, but with length measurements, and going off others that have been caught in the same length range we are figuring somewhere around 100lbs.  Here is the thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/136364-shattering-state-records/   Jeff 4 Quote

Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 Think my most memberable of other speices would be a 100+lb amberjack. Â Not only is it the biggest amberjack I've caught, I saw the fish when it bit, and we played tug-a-war for 20min on buttoned down 80lb braid before we managed to lip gaff it, get a picture and quickly release her back to fight another day. Â Not to mention pulled 2 circle hooks out of it's mouth from privious incounters with other anglers that didn't win. Â Caught a few larger fish then this one....sharks, my only marlin, tuna, but this one was the funnest just because of how mean it was and tying to keep it out of the oil platform we were tied off to about a 100ft away. Super User BassinLou Posted November 30, 2014 Super User Posted November 30, 2014 My 2 biggest catches that I can remember are a sailfish that I caught unfortunately cell phone camera's were just coming out back then, and my most recent big catch was this 35+ lb wahoo.     Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted December 1, 2014 Super User Posted December 1, 2014 Biggest fish would either be a giant stingray or a 6' blacktip, but I like to call my 51lb cobia my biggest fish, swam up to the boat and I pitched a 2oz bucktail on its nose---WHAM!. I have landed Amberjack over 51lbs too but the cobia is what I tell people about when they ask Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 1, 2014 Super User Posted December 1, 2014 That fish gets bigger and cooler everytime I see that picture, great fish 00Mod! 1 Quote
DFrench97 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 My biggest is a 20lb salmon. Second biggest is a 15lb Bonita (tuna family) which was a big one for that species. Used it as bait and my brother caught a 200lb+ Goliath Grouper. Hopefully I''ll hit triple digits this year in FL! Quote

BammerBass Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Wow!!!! Now thats some big dawg gone fish guys!!!!! When you catch fish that are as long as you are or even bigger, it kinda makes it a scary thought what lurks out there . And to the guy who caught the 12 lb cat on 4lb test line while coaching your daughter on how to handle her fish, heck of a job!!!! And yeah it is amazing how big fish like that seem to LOVE to catch you with light line huh? Kudos on landing that cat on such light gear, not an easy task at all!!! Heck that last bass I caught, while it was no monster, I still was not expecting it nor was I really ready for it, even though I had hung a good one on the same light set up a couple weeks before, I just did not believe id get lucky enough for that to happen again!!!! Lost the first one midway up the pylon due to my overreagerness it was likely my personal best if I had landed it it, if that one I DID land (and post pics of here) was 16" in length and 2.5 or so lbs, then that one must have been around 19-20 inches and it was a fatty. Both cases those bass were the first bites of the day and I was like " whoa, now, whoa, I haven't been fishing much in the three years prior, why cant ya let me warm up on some of your smaller brethren, im rusty and way out of practice!!!!!" Though that likely "personal best" bass of mine got away, I learned alot from it in terms as f what they do once hooked, and how to be patient and not try to just power it in, especially not over a 12-15 foot tall pylon. Of course now aftrr "bragging" about stuff I really shouldn't be bragging about, ill probably get the big skunk on the next trip......... such is fishing. Quote
