Finally got my own boat! Nice little Ranger R70 with a 115.  Been fishing like crazy since I got it and it feels GREAT to be back out in the Glades.  Mainly talking about Holiday Park here....maybe I might swing up to Sawgrass Rec

That being said, I was wondering if anyone else is getting killed by this front that came through on Thanksgiving!  I went out Thurs. morning and this afternoon.  Caught two dinks today and that was it!  I fished L67, down by the little pump house at the intersection, then I fished that canal from there that runs north, and the center canal where the pads were thick.  Nothing!  I was dropping a red shad jig and a red shad/green glitter worm with 65lb test.  Couldn't buy a fish.

Going back tomorrow and was wondering if y'all had any advice.  I'm thinking about trying the flats off 67 but I'm wondering if the water is still high enough? (I'm seeing some pads start to sag as if the water was coming back down)

d**n...guess I'm the only one lol.  No advice??

Yep, we are here.  Just most of us are frozen at this time and waiting for December to have the best weather of the winter (December, January, February and March).

As for suggestions, how about telling us the water temperature and depths where you will be fishing?

All of us can give you suggestions but we need to have "Florida Specific" suggestions.

Congrats on your new boat. How about posting a photo for us to see the new watercraft?

So get back with us on the water temps and depths and you will probably get a lot of input from the guys in New England an the Midwest who have nothing to do but reorganize their tackle as they watch football on TV.

We had cold front down here in Florida, went to the inlet made 3 casts then decided it was too cold and went home.  Later in the day went bass fishing and did ok.  Second day I just stayed home and went bass fishing and caught a few dinks.  The 2 days I missed 20# jacks were all over the place so I heard.  Yesterday the weather was ok, head out to the inlet for some heavy action and not a fished showed up.............

We went out of US 27 yesterday and although it was slower than usual, we still managed to boat 20 fish. They were nice chunks. No monsters but we did lose a few pigs.

Showtime,

Welcome to BR.  I fished once in this cold front...that was Saturday at Okeechobee.  The fishing definitely has been affected.  Had to downsize and slow way down to get bit.  We managed a good bag but we really had to work for them.  Gonna try this afternoon for a little bit at Holiday Park,

Same here I just downsized and really slowed down. Good worm and Keitech Fats either still or real slow.

Hey guys, thanks for the response.  Sorry, but I don't know the depth or water temperature because, well, I just got the boat and the depthfinder makes noise but has no light to the screen.  Going today to look into buying a new one.  Any suggestions?

The air temp was 52* in the morning and never got above 70*.  I know I just ticked off a bunch of Northern fishermen with that lol, but our bass are just as spoiled as we are down here!!!

I was fishing the alligator alley canal and caught a couple little bass under 1.5lbs.  Then I fished the finger canals along 27 a bit and caught a 3lber.  For the afternoon, I switched fishing partners and took another friend out and decided to head up to Sawgrass Rec.  No bites along the canal that runs to Markham.  Tried the flats and didn't see a d**n thing, none the less even get a bite.

Switched over to the 27 canal and fished one of the canals that run off it and caught 6 little guys.

Then I fished this morning, thinking the weather had finally warmed up a bit (low of 70 last night and got up to 78 today).  Caught 6 little guys but that was about it.  We fished down past picnic island today.

I have a lot to learn and look forward to any advice I can get! I know there are some good 3-6lb fish out there and that some guys catch them fairly consistently.

By the way, I was mainly using Yamato twitch baits (Watermelon and Red shad), Charlies Worms 8" ribbon tail pitching in the pads (red shad green glitter), and a Bass Pro brand twitch bait in orange/pumpkin.  I also threw a Heddon Torpedo a bit with 0 success.  Best bait was pitching the Charlie's Worm.  My buddy caught a couple on watermelon fluke.

Hi Showtime, welcome to BR, I apologize for not welcoming you earlier. Did you go out yesterday or today to 27? I was out there yesterday for 8hrs between the 3rd and 4th launching ramp and I only saw one boat through out the day and it was another tracker. Anyways.. as far as the bite went, they were hanging around the ledges yesterday. I only threw 2 different color stickbaits and they seemed to like that better. I couldn't  resist using a frog, so i threw it some as well, connected with several and lost 2 bigger fish around 4lb +. Maybe we will cross paths one day. Your Ranger's color scheme is unique, so I will easily remember you.

I caught a couple peas on Friday pretty surprising considering the cold front. I did get skunked when it comes to bass though.

Hey Showtime, welcome to the forum.  I went out this weekend on L29 this weekend as well, and it was very SLOW.  Was on the water before sunrise, and had 2 short strikes on a buzzbait, then fished for a few more hours throwing trickworms and nothing.  When it gets cold down here, you really have to slow down, but with the wind this weekend it was tough.  Good luck out there.

Thanks for the tips guys! Yes, I was out at 27 on Saturday but I didn't run past the 2nd finger canal.  It was late in the morning as well.  Thats where I caught the only "decent" fish we had.  Still managed between 5-8 each day but it was ridiculously slow.

If y'all ever see me out there, flag me down and introduce yourself! My name's Brian.  I have a Blue Flame F-150 tow rig with "Apache Firearms Training" on the side and a Marine Corps sticker on the back window.  I'll be out there just about every weekend and on afternoons when I finish up my days work early :)

Always looking to make new friends and if you're ever interested in doing some "teaching" or need a fishing buddy, let me know.  I love to learn!  Your boat or mine, I'll pick up the fuel bill!

Sounds like you were way further South than I was. When you say 2nd finger canal, from which ramp? Either way, welcome aboard. In the next few months the entire area is going to get crazy with fish. Can't wait!!

Lou, the 2nd finger canal from the bend off the alley canal....so yes, very far south lol.  almost the beginning of the north turn

I haven't seen a peacock around here in quite a while.

Both Sat and Sun the surf was beautiful, not a fish showed up.  Stopped at a couple of bass spots Sunday on the way home and not a strike.  Went back out bass fishing about 10 am, I even used a jig and trailer which tells me I was pretty hard up, lol.  Not one strike, I have been catching nice bass all week at these places.  Just before going back into the house I threw a couple of casts in my pond, pulled in a monster 3" bass, I guess it's safe to say I wasn't skunked.

Showtime, cold fronts shut down the bite after they pass through an area.

You may have to aggravate them into hitting your baits.

Enjoy that beautiful Florida weather and here is to many hours of fun in your boat.

As for electronics, personal preference.

Yea I was way south...I don't like the idea of putting in off 27....to susceptible to theft.  And yea, I know a cold front shuts em down, but other than barometric pressure dropping, we don't have much of a "COLD" front lol

In the 14 years i have been fishing 27, I have had one break in, and that was last year. It occurred at the 3rd ramp on the West side. I have since then launched out of the 4th ramp. Much less traffic, plus its farther North. Launching from Holiday to fish 27 is a hike. Years ago, i use to make the run from the 1st ramp on 27 to Holiday because I can't stand the traffic out of Holiday during peak season. Talking about a hike, my boat is 25HP so it takes looooong while to make it to the fishing grounds i was after. LOL.. I have wised up since then and have kept the distances under 8 miles. LOL

I have a 115 and run about 55mph but good Lord she sucks gas! The other day I ran from the boat ramp down to picnic island and then out to the tamiami canal.  I did turn away from Holiday and just cruised a bit to see what ws down there...thankfully I turned when I did because i was on E when i got back!! I think next time I'll be putting in off 27 and just take my chances and secure any valuables!

Just don't leave any valuables in your car period. There has even been several break-ins on the alley.
