Hey guys I was looking for your opinions on the gen 3 stx, I just found one for 150 and picked it up in a 6:3:1. I was wondering if this reel is worth it or any good. Thanks.

Mine was awesome until it had a problem after two trips. After a cast the spool would not engage and i would have to reset the drag...it would be fine for 10 or so casts adn then it would happen again. Sent itback to abu and had a new one three days later amd had the dame problem. Sent the second one back for a refund and bought a lews TP

My gen 2 stx has been fished hard for a few seasons and has never had any issues at all, love it hence why i got a gen 3

I will say i was super impressed with Abus customer service

i really dont know weather ill keep it or not, now that I got home and read all the reviews and saw very mixed results. I wont have time to even test it so i dont know weather i should take a gamble or just go with the regular sx, which i've heard all good things.

Both of mine were early runs...they may have solved the issue i dunno...

The only difference between the SX ad STX are the features (brakes etc) There's no engineering difference between the two. Any brand can have a hiccup here or there, that's part of mass production (fwiw the lew's come out of the same factory). The STX is a quality reel worth deciding for yourself whether you like it. Don't get too hung up on internet reviews in general.

I was coming to the forum to ask a question and saw this post.... I have a question   I have a chance to trade a Revo Stx gen 3 for a Curado e7... I dont really care for my Revo Stx to small in my hands.  Is this a good trade? price wise?   just need some info on the curado e7 i guess.

thanks

I switched from abu to shimano after gen 3 just too may issues I had with them which is really a shame. I still have one gen 3 stx that doesnt have any issues but I still find that it can't compete with the shimanos. A gen 2 stx however is a whole different story that reel is super solid. I still regret selling them for gen 3 revos.

I wanna say the SX had similar issues when the gen 3 came out. I also know a guy a fish many tournaments with had the same issue i had only with his MGX. Abu replaced his MGX and it has been trouble free for the lasttwo seasons. His gen 3 winch has been flawless

Yeah i know lews come out of the same factory...i have nothin negative to say about abu i just got two lemons...it happens

Do you like dual brakes or just centri? Thats the real question. Both are fine reels. I prefer centri over dual. I love my e series shimanos.

I do really like my gen 2 stx and my lews tp but i rarely use the mags

I love everything revo and have never had an issue with a single one.  I own the stx gen 3 and use it is my favorite baitcasting reel in that price range. They are a solid workhorse of a reel. Only reels I love more are the zillions, but they tend to hurt the pocketbook a little more.
