Lures You Use But Don't Catch Fish.

What are types of lures that you use but have never caught fish?  I'm talking broad categories like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, etc...

I keep trying to catch fish on my SPRO little john MD's but they just dont seem to work here in the northwest for me.  I did ok on them in the north east but nothing here.

Spinnerbaits with a big ole single colorado blade. I've only used them at night, but I've never gotten a bite on one.

For me, I think frogs were the last of the lures 

I've got in active rotation that hadn't caught

me fish - until this year.

Buzzbaits and suspending jerk baits have 

been no fishy for me.

None that I can think of.....I have not used blade baits (like the silver buddy) much, even though I should. A lot of dudes whack them on blades in cold water around here............BUT I have used  them a little and put a few non-target fish in the boat (yellow perch, and northern pike). I don't know that I have ever used a jigging spoon, or a flutter spoon, but I have caught bass on spoons like the old Johnson Silver Minnow, and Dare devil, so in the general category of "spoons" I am not blanked there either.

I've never caught a fish on a jerkbait. So I don't throw them anymore.

Alabama rig, maybe because I am not in Alabama . I have changed the baits on it multiple times, so I am guessing that the clear water on my home lake combined with no shad as forage may be contributing to my failure. No bass on my home lake has ever seen a shad, much less a school of them, so I am guessing the A-rig looks like a UFO to them. They will eat 3" swimbaits in bass or bluegill colors when fished individually, but ignore the same baits when bunched together.

I know it sounds ridiculous but I can't catch a fish on a hard jerkbait to save my life.

Swap it for a t-rigged soft plastic jerkbait and I fill the boat. I don't get it.

Im with the other guys, hard jerkbaits. I buy them, i dont use them, and i sure as hell dont catch fish with them lol ive thrown them maybe 5 different days.

Have not caught a thing on the following lures: spinner baits, crank baits, crank baits, rattle traps, poppers, frogs, plastic worms, bass jigs. Essentially the only lures I have caught anything on are: Buzzbaits, beetle spins, panfish assassin jigs. In essence, if it requires much skill to present it properly, I haven't caught a thing on it.

Try fishing them in stained water and days w/less sun penetration. Also a good idea to base colors on conditions along w/forage. Most of my spinnerbait fish come on baits w/a single colorado or turtle blades

Every summer I give the frogs a dedicated try, and they still aren't producing anything but infrequent and dramatic blowups for me.

When are you guys fishing Buzz Baits? I find a black buzz to be one of the best nightime baits there is! I would say I don't really have trouble catching fish on any baits... the only thing I would say I struggle catching fish w/are unscented plastics (Zoom, Havoc) So I spray them w/scent or don't buy them. I do fine w/scented plastics though.

The least producing bait is the Jerkbait because we have a small window of opportunity in Virginia for this bait as compared to the other baits that work better during the year.

Chop, throw a buzzbait first thing right before and as the sun comes over the horizon.

 

You can throw the buzzbait anytime during the day or night but in the early morning I have found it to be more attractive to bass.

 

Use a trailer hook always.

 

Set up your baitcaster so that you can start your retrieve just as the bait hits or right before the bait hits the water.

 

Buzzbait fishing can be a lot of fun and the strikes will startle you as you are no expecting them.

 

Give it a try again this coming summer and I am sure you will love the buzzbait.

Why would you keep fishing with a lure you don't get strikes? Repeating the same mistake is insanity.

Use lures that work for you and try new lures during a good bite.

I hate to admit this but I have never caught a fish on a jig. Maybe I didn't use them at the right place or time. It's obvious they work but all I've got was snagged or a bunch of salad back. I've seen my buddy and many others nail them on a jig but not me. Tube jigs on the other hand I stay putting fish in the boat.
