Hello, I'm Andy from Southern California. Just retired and started fishing a couple of months ago. I'm just learning the basics. I fish from the bank. I mostly catch Bluegill. However, I've also hooked two Bass.

What area are you in.  I am looking for someone to fish with in december.  My parents live in oceanside and am willing to go to any lake in the area while there.

John, I'm located just east of Los Angeles near the 210 and 605 intersection. Since I'm retired, I have somewhat of a flexible schedule and always looking for great places to fish.

Thanks Jeff. I'm looking forward to learning from the Forum. I'm still looking for good places to fish in Southern California. As I understand it, the drought has made lake fishing more challenging.

John, do you want to just do lake fishing or are you up for ocean fishing. Oceanside has a great pier for fishing. Also there are several good piers in the Long Beach area. There are also some reportedly good lakes within an hour or so drive from Oceanside.

I will be in long beach at some point, so maybe you could show me where to wet a line in that area!

Welcome to the forums. Lot's of good places to fish in the Metro area of LA/OC itself as well as the larger lakes.

I fish in fresh water only and i have to make up my mind to ship a rod here in the next few days.  I am thinking of renting a bass boat and fishing lake.

Lake Wohlford looks interesting. Depending on when you come in December the stocking schedule might be right on target. It's not a bad drive from Oceanside either and the bass boating rental fee is very reasonable. One of the most popular areas a reasonable drive inland from Oceanside is Diamond Valley Lake. Is a big lake.

The boat rentals seem a lot more there.  I fly in on the 18th and would be looking at the 19 or 20th.  The 20th is my birthday so that would be cool!

Yes the boat rentals are much higher. Given the stocking date and the prices, Wohlford looks good.

Nice, bass will become an addiction

Thanks CDMeyer. I can see how it can become an addiction. I'm already fishing 2-3 times a week and love it.

Thank you Gulfcaptain. You are right. I see a lot of choices. I'm looking forward to trying a few.
