anglerandy Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hello, I'm Andy from Southern California. Just retired and started fishing a couple of months ago. I'm just learning the basics. I fish from the bank. I mostly catch Bluegill. However, I've also hooked two Bass. Andy Quote

Since I'm retired, I have somewhat of a flexible schedule and always looking for great places to fish. Andy 1 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted November 28, 2014 Super User Posted November 28, 2014 I will be in long beach at some point, so maybe you could show me where to wet a line in that area! Quote
anglerandy Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 Welcome to the forums! Jeff Thanks Jeff. I'm looking forward to learning from the Forum. I'm still looking for good places to fish in Southern California. As I understand it, the drought has made lake fishing more challenging. Andy. Quote
anglerandy Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 John, do you want to just do lake fishing or are you up for ocean fishing. Oceanside has a great pier for fishing. Also there are several good piers in the Long Beach area. There are also some reportedly good lakes within an hour or so drive from Oceanside. Andy I will be in long beach at some point, so maybe you could show me where to wet a line in that area! Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 28, 2014 Super User Posted November 28, 2014 Welcome to the forums. Lot's of good places to fish in the Metro area of LA/OC itself as well as the larger lakes. Quote

Andy I fish in fresh water only and i have to make up my mind to ship a rod here in the next few days. I am thinking of renting a bass boat and fishing lake. http://lakewohlford.com/ Quote
anglerandy Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 Lake Wohlford looks interesting. Depending on when you come in December the stocking schedule might be right on target. It's not a bad drive from Oceanside either and the bass boating rental fee is very reasonable. One of the most popular areas a reasonable drive inland from Oceanside is Diamond Valley Lake. Is a big lake. Andy Quote

I fly in on the 18th and would be looking at the 19 or 20th. The 20th is my birthday so that would be cool! Quote
anglerandy Posted November 29, 2014 Author Posted November 29, 2014 Yes the boat rentals are much higher. Given the stocking date and the prices, Wohlford looks good.
