So I went to Bass Pro today to pick up my new 15 lb

Boga Grip (holy cow that thing is smooth) as well as

to pick up a new Carbonlite "CL" casting rod.

There were no white Carbonlites on display. They'll

be up for Black Friday.

There were 6 fishing employees unpacking stuff for

BF sales and I asked if the white Carbonlite will be

replacing the black models.

One guy spoke up and said "No, we will sell the two

colors." So the white will be the "Carbonlite" and the

black will be the "Carbonlite CL".... "CL" standing for

Carbonlite...

Hopefully that was accurate info. If anyone else went

to BPS and asked, can you confirm?

So its a carbonlite carbonlite?

LOL, yes. When I asked them what "CL" stood for

and they said "Carbonlite", I had a "what the" look

on my face, they just stared blankly ....

One of those "yeah we know it's redundant" moments.

Ok. These guys worked there, too. So I guess we've got conflicting reports.

I know the fishing manager at the Hampton store, I can ask him next time.

Plus I've got an email in to Bass Pro. I'm quite curious. Hate to see a lineup

replaced when there's nothing wrong with them.

Didn't like it when Shimano did it, either.

Well, it's official. I got an email reply just now from Bass Pro.

White replaces black in 2015. Bassin28 is correct.

Darren,

Thank you for contacting Bass Pro Shops. I received a notice from our Contact Center regarding the Carbonlite Rods. Once we sell through the black the white will replace the black rods for 2015.

Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.

Best Regards,

Audrie

Guess white is gonna be the new hip color of fishing rods since the Duckett's and Veritas's are white and seem to be quite popular. Saw they changed the color of the Bionic's as well, at least the mico line anyways.

Not only that, but they've changed what Carbonlite

blank, apparently. Unless it is the same thing, just

renamed.

I hope they keep the lightness. I always find something

I like just before it is discontinued. Compres were the

same thing...

Always got to make a new shiny penny when the older ones still work fine.  They will be black again if their "new" models don't sell as good as their older ones did.  They will change the handle and the labeling and call them a new model.

I'm not a fan of white fishing rod blanks. I got one free from a buddy one time and my dad's response was "Who makes a white fishing rod?" Guess I just take after him when it comes to fishing tackle. Ie.. Cork handles, mono for everything but flipping and plastic fishing, and buying inexpensive baits. All of which works just fine IMO.. But I guess I never really gave the others a try, so it is slightly biased...

For looks, I'm kind of partial to the white/black style. Lew's new Custom rods start out white then they turn black at about the first guide. Cabela's Tournament ZX (which are my new favorite) do the same thing. Supposedly, what they are doing is leaving the finish off of the end of the rod which is suppose to increase sensitivity and reduce weight. I think *** leaves their whole rod unfinished for this purpose. But, I'm not one of the geardo's who knows how everything works from the production line in Korea/Japan/China all the way to your local store shelf so I'm just going off what I read.

Personally, I never was a fan of the Carbonlite rods. I had a 6'6" M and 7' MH that I sold for my *** Blacks. I still have a 7' M spinning rod Carbonlite that no one wants to buy. They're good rods, they just don't work for me.
