BammerBass Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 http://i57.tinypic.com/149qhlc.jpg' alt='149qhlc.jpg'>] Well this may be garbled and I hate to spam, but just thought id share some of my catches in that "sweet spot" of mine. The crappie bit on the silver minnow/tiny shad panfish assassin like the bass did, the shellcracker bit on nightcrawlers and boy were they feisty!! Just imagine if those things grew like lmb do...mercy. that little catfish bit a chicken liver set up on a b aitcast rig with 17 lb test line, dropped straight down to avoid the hassle of backlash. And hey those bass, at least I went in the right direction with them increasing in size till I finally caught that 16incher .... and perhaps maybe that one little bass is a spotted bass? Looks a bit different from the typical largemouth in this area. And the crappie, it doesn't have the veerticle bars of a white crappie, but doesn't auite look like a black crappie either, possible hybrid of the two? Lots of fun catching those fish. 1 Quote
BammerBass Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Reposted the two little basslets since I must have messed something up in the original post. gonns take some getting used to if i post more pics in the future (which i hope to do). Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 Your crappie is a white crappie. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted November 27, 2014 Super User Posted November 27, 2014 Your crappie is a white crappie. No it's a black, whites have a slightly different shaped head and their spots are arranged in vertical bars that are very distinct. I always thought the only black crappies I caught were the dark ones in spring (really these were just spawning males) both whites and black turn dark (males) on beds. Quote
BammerBass Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 Yeah I originally thought white, but it was lacking the veerticle bars white crappie typically have. Either way its a crappie lol. Quote

From what I've been told the only way to truly tell the difference between the two is by the number of dorsal spines they have. A white crappie will have between 4-6 hard spines and a black crappie will have 7 or 8. I could have miscounted due to the blurry picture, but it looks like it only has 6. Quote
Jtrout Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 The bass looks like a spot and btw nice fishin hole gotta b some pigs in there Quote
BammerBass Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Oh there are some good ones in there. Lost a likely 4lb bass I had hung and had an awesome battle with, hung my arm over the railing of the pylon for 5 minutes while we tried to figure out away to grt it. I got over anxious and began cranking it up on my light action rod n reel....... splash, fish had snapped the line and went back to the water still makes me sick thinking about whst could have been. Just about everh tjme I have been there I have seen some decent size bass patrolling the shores, and one time one was giving those poor lil bluegill absolute heck, even a good 7-8 inchch bluegill ran for its life and flopped up on thr bank as a result of the bass chasing it. Didn't catch that bass sadly. Went back the next week and caught a 16" bass and a 17" drum plus a couple dink drum as well. I had also lost anothrr one I had hung but it got away before I got it to the top of the water even, but it felt like a potential 2.5+ lber. Just had found thst spot last month, and man I bet in the spring those fish have parties there. And those shellcracker were mean lol, very uncooperative, got stuck a couple times by both, and one just about flopped inside my shirt lol. Quote
