*Hank Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Have any of you used this? I saw a guy catch a couple fish with these of a highly pressured dock last weekend when they wouldn't even bite a drop shot rig! Would you recommend this lure for highly pressured waters? Also what colors do you recommend? Thanks! Quote
Super User Angry John Posted November 25, 2014 Super User Posted November 25, 2014 I have had very limited success on this lure and caught trout not bass. I do better on the heavier version made for casting rods. This type of bait would get murdered by pickeral on the east coast and be gone because its so small. I am glad i dont have to deal with that anymore. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 These lures are for clear water and for fishing in places that you know are holding fish. The bait is very subtle, it doesn't displace a lot of water and doesn't make hardly any noise so the fish find it by sight and the small vibrations it makes help trigger the strike. There is probably a lot of these at the bottom of a lot of tackle boxes and bags because they are a very specialized lure, I messed with them for a bit and the fact that they made a heavier version for casting makes me wonder about some things. I found that the lure works best on light line, 6lb is the max, it will work on 8 but the shimmy you get is reduced to almost zero, it is really touchy and if the heavier model is the same way, 8lb line would probably be the max you could use it on. I was lucky enough to sell my baits, and it isn't that they don't work but they are even more specialized than a jerkbait and are absolutely boring to use. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 26, 2014 Global Moderator Posted November 26, 2014 I've caught a good number of fish on these in the limited number of times I've used them. I fish them on my dropshot rod with 6lb test and a slow, steady retrieve. Clear water seems to be a must. I've had my best success with them targeting smallmouth but obviously they catch largemouth too. I've been fishing the Ghost M Shad. Quote
ColdSVT Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Ill be giving them a try in the finger lakes this coming spring...gin clear water! Hopefully toothy the clown doesnt take em from me Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 I've heard raves about them, but never tried them. I bet they would work really well on pressured ponds....might have to give 'em a try. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 I've been wanting to try these as well. I might pick one up during Black Friday. The waters I fish aren't the clearest, but I'd imagine they'd work on those bedded fish in the spring. Quote
Will Wetline Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 After one season the Duo Realis Spin Bait 80 made my go-to list of baits for clear water smallies. You must be a patient angler and retrieve this bait slowly and steadily - if running and gunning and throwing reaction baits is your style the Spin Bait is not for you. Also important to success with this strange looking lure is a precise balance of components: a 7' ML rod and 6 lb. fluoro. (I used Sunline Super FC Sniper.) will give you a presentation that maximizes this bait's effectiveness. Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 27, 2014 Super User Posted November 27, 2014 Don't believe the hype. all im saying , tried them, haven't caught diddly on them (but i fish in california ) , for the money you;re better off buying something else like Duo's new sick crankbait They work and work well, the problem is the hype, I see guys throwing these with 12# fluorocarbon and 30# braid thinking the bait is heavy enough for casting rods with mid weight line. I also see guys throwing it in dirty water, that is the thing I see the most, I ran into guys using too heavy of a line about 3 or 4 times, guys throwing it in dirty water I see almost every time I fish a certain lake and the water is dirty all but in the early winter and early spring and the guys are using it in mid summer. I've caught fish with it but 2 things are the clear water and you have to be on fish, it isn't a search bait, you either have to see the fish physically or on your sonar, the lure is too subtle for fish to find it.
