Weld's Largemouth Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Hey all, The time has come to make a Siebert order in preparation for my trip down to So. Florida in December. I've been looking at the Dredge Brush jig to fish the thick, tall grass in the ponds i fish in Florida.. I'm little stumped on whether a 1/2 oz size is necessary or just 3/8 oz. Also looking to see what your favorite jigs from Siebert Outdoors are. Thanks, Welds. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted November 25, 2014 Super User Posted November 25, 2014 I like his shaky head and the arky jig. I also use a lot of the ball heads for swim baits. his hooks are heavy duty and i fish the shaky jig head on 10lb with a baby brush hawg a lot. 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Tall, thick grass says Punch Jig to me. 1 Quote
Preytorien Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I've been having great success this year swimming a Dredge Brush jig in Chartruse Shad / White head Swim it and pop it every once in a while 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hey Welds, For the thick grass I would go with a punch jig or punch rig. If the grass is real thick the Brush wouldn't be the best bet. Light weeds it will work fine but if they are thick you may have weed problems. Punch jig http://siebertoutdoors.com/Punchin-Jig-481.htm Punch rig http://siebertoutdoors.com/Tungsten-Punch-Rig-408.htm These two will be your best bet for coming through the weeds the best. The punch jig swims great as a swim jig also. Quote

Im looking to use keitech fat impact 3.8 swimbaits as trailers and skinny dippers.. Do you think the wide gap is necessary for swimbait plastics as trailers? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I would stick with the regular one. 1 Quote
kadas Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I spend about 6 months a year in Florida fishing and in my experience from trial and error you will become totally frustrated trying to fish a regular jig in the Florida grass--just too thick in most lakes in South central Florida where I fish and I am sure it is the same down south--best results for success and far less frustration as Mike said is a punch rig--far better to fish with in the heavy grass where you will find the big girls Mike makes great punch rigs --choose your colors and have fun!! 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 Mike, If you were limited to selling just 3 different skirt colors, what would you offer? Based on sales? Based on your experience? I admit that I tend to get overwhelmed with all the variables - I'd guess that you offer probably a million or more possible lure/color combinations. Dave Quote
Super User bigbill Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 I'm really advancing into jig fishing more. I purchased many of the different jigs, sizes and colors. I'm thinking once I show the five family members how jigs work I'm gonna need more of Mike's quality jigs. I find my new daughter in law is a pretty good fisherman too. It's great to see my son has a partner who likes fishing too. I enjoy giving tips along the way and seeing them catch fish. Don't put a limit on colors. All colors will work under certain conditions. On a slow day change colors till you find the one that works. Just try it. Fact just look at all the different worm colors we use? Jig colors are no different. Having a assortment of colors in Seiberts jigs = success. Don't put on the color blinders. I have a cheap orange spook that proves this. Who'd of thunk it? With Mike being a bass fisherman too that helps his development with colors he knows what works. Now it's up to us to find where the fish are at. My two sons were side by side catching bass after bass. One son turns to the other son and goes were catching fish like the guys on tv? Quote

Dave I forgot to mention this in my sale post and new products but I've also built and added something like your asking. Basically its my top ten already to roll Dredge jigs in all 3 styles. I'll be doing this for all the versions eventually. The pictures are bigger and also easy to see the details because of the zoom feature. This makes it easier to pick the top 10 colors and faster ordering with less confusion since I've paired them up with the matching jig head color. http://siebertoutdoors.com/Dredge-Brush-490.htm. I would have a hard time picking 3. If I was to pick 3 I'd have to say black/blue, Bama, and then the #3 is a difficult one. Blue craw, pbj, or junebug all 3 rank right there about the same and closely followed by a couple others. 2 Quote
1234567 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 If your not using his flipping jigs definitely grab some extreme shakys. I've bought around 200 of them already and will be getting more in the near future. The heavy hook really helps when these south Florida bass bulldog into the heavy weeds where normal shaky head hooks can not get them out. That's why I fish it with 25# flouro as well. 1 Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Punch rig http://siebertoutdoors.com/Tungsten-Punch-Rig-408.htm I also don't really understand the punch rig, never used or seen it be used before. Is there a hook?? Or do you add a hook or what..? And size difference between the 3/8 oz punching jig and a 1/2 oz, how much of a difference? Quote
1234567 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 If you're punching down here look from half to 1 1/2 ounce punch weights. The pinch rig goes above your hook. The skirt gives more action and helps it slide through the mats easier. Put your own heavy wire hook on it. 1 Quote
