Super User HoosierHawgs Posted November 24, 2014 Super User Posted November 24, 2014 Has anybody fished it this year? I have fished it previously, but didn't get out to it this year. I had a pretty good year elsewhere though! I will be getting a SOT fishing kayak for fishing Eagle Creek and Raccoon Lake exclusively next year, so I wanted to start gathering info on them now. If you have fished either lake, did you catch anything? What were you cathcing, and how were you catching em? Any help is appreciated! Quote

Best thing you could do right now if you haven't before is to drive out to Raccoon and walk the banks, taking pictures and notes. The lake is down 20' or more for winter, and all the exposed stumps, laydowns, points and rock banks are easily seen. A great chance to learn a bit about what is under the water in the areas of the lake you'd like to fish. -T9 3 Quote

I'll take some pictures, and write some stuff down in my notebooks. Thanks again! Quote
Preytorien Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I hear a lot from the local tournament guys, and fish with one semi-regularly, but I haven't ever heard of anyone doing great at Eagle Creek. It's always about like Monroe....which amounts to 15lb limits winning tournaments. Eagle Creek has some nice dropoffs, so that would be good, but otherwise, no one seems to ever light the woods on fire out there. Quote

When I can get out there and get around on foot I've caught some good fish. Like really good fish. We'll have to see how it goes once I get the yaks. Thanks for the info! Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted December 31, 2014 Super User Posted December 31, 2014 Eagle Creek has always run in cycles. I've pretty much fished it all of my life. It was pretty good just a few years back, and also in the late 90s, but seems like it's back in a bit of a slump. Who knows though, next year it could be back on fire. Still some nice quality bass in that lake, you just have to work for them at times. Best thing to do is catch that lake when the water is down, which doesn't happen too frequently. Back in 1991 it dropped almost 12' below normal pool, and that year I walked almost the entire lake shoreline taking pictures of everything that is normally underwater. Then again in 2000 it sank a bit over 10' low. Most recent was a 7.5' drop in March 2009. A lot of those old stumps and rock foundations are still there to this day. -T9 1 Quote

We were able to walk around and get to all our spots. It's hard to get around on fort! That's why I want the yaks! Hopefully we can get out on both, maybe even Monroe and Patoka too. Quote
