I'm heading home for Thanksgiving and doing a little fishing at the family private pond. I'm going to throw the Skinny Dipper for a bit and am wondering If any of you folks throw these and what size hook you generally use. Thanks for any Input!

I use an Owner Wide Gap Plus, I think it's 5/0 . . .

When I throw a soft swim bait, which is a lot, it's always either a skinny dipper or a Big EZ.

If I'm throwing on top or in really shallow water I use a pegged glass bullet and rig it with a 5/0 or 6/0 Owner twist lock hook.

If throwing in water say 4' to 6'ft I use a 1/16 or 1/32 pegged bullet weight just ticking the top of grass and letting it fall into any holes, or where the grass thins out more.

A 1/4 oz molded belly weighted hook is also a good option if you want it to fall horizontal.

In really dirty water or on windy days, I like useing the Gambler Duz It Swimbait hook.

It's a 6/0 hook with a nickel colored willow spinner blade attached to the shank which you can adjust to change the fall angle if you want.

The skinny dipper is unique for a swim bait as the ridges along the side of it are angled toward the head which displaces more water than a flat sided one like the Big EZ. But the Big EZ has a totally different action.

Also, skinny dippers are a great trailer on a chatter bait, just cut off the head and you're good to go.

Have Fun

My first response here was off the top of my head.  So I just check it out (hands on) and this is the deal for me.

The 4/0 Owner will work OK but I do prefer a hook with more of a bite - that's my way of saying that when rigged there is plenty of space between the bottom of the bait and the hook.  When throwing these baits, the 5/0 is my choice.

Another very good option here is a 5/0 Trokar EWG Mag Worm hook.  This one has a little longer shank (rides a bit further back in the bait) and a little less of a bite.  It sit nicely in the bait and when it come to the hook up - that hook is like a GAFF !

Finally, these are all obviously weightless options.  When needed I use the Gamakatsu Superline EWG Weighted Hook & the Falcon Lures Bait-Jerk Superline Hook in the sizes noted above.

Both are the NON-Screw lock type - I hate those things as they really seem to rip up the nose of the baits unnecessarily.

Hope this helps.

I  like to use the owner twistlock light weighted 6/0 size with 3/32 oz weight.

Have to agree with Ajay on the NON screwlock hooks. Baits last longer for me. And my fav. Is the Gambler Ez

4-1/4". 7 for 4 bucks is a bargain and these work the best of all I've tried. Personal preference on both hook and bait though.

I fiind that once November comes around I do better with a swimbait that has limited action, I really like The SK KVD shiners or even the GYB swimbaits, or swim senko is probably my favorite or confidence bait I should say, and for a swim senko I use an Ewg hook as small as I can get away with just as long as I have plenty of hook point left after compressing, and I often use small swimbaits in the 3" range. I have had good days if I have open water simply lip hooking a swimbait with a gamakatsu split shot hook and my hook up percentage is way better, I lose more baits, but the action is much different and adding a weight 18" above can be helpful at times....

Overall, In weeds in summer, the Skinny dipper gets an Ewg 4/0-6/0 depending on size as they have a few different sizes and I use the bass pro swimbaits as well which look very similar and are softer which I like. The GYB swimbaits in open water are my favorite by far, but I use a jighead with them.
