What is a fair price for a gently used 101D?

How well does a 100D/101D cast relatively light (~3/8 oz) baits (spool weight/ startup) compared to the more modern 200 E/G Shimanos?

Not a fair comparison, but the latter is what I have a lot of time on the water with. Had a few 201D citicas too, and I thought they were unremarkable for sub 1/2 oz baits (awesome reels though).

Thanks,

I had one a few years ago (101D). It didn't wow me. With so many other lighter reels available now, unless you were getting a heck of a deal on it, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. I had it paired with a 7' MH/F Avid and it was a nice combo, but was not a finesse casting reel by any means. About the lightest stuff I used with it was 3/8's oz.. My 51E's were noticeably better.

The D series reels are super smooth and solidly built but were on the heavy side by current standards and no, they are not a finesse casting reel but are nice for more traditional (1/2 oz >) casting applications. As for price, I won't typically pay over 60% of retail for anything second hand.

I have a couple of 100 D's.  They are solid little reels that are very well built.  I like them better and use them more than my 50 E's.  They aren't finesse casters but you can buy a 50 MG spool for them for $40 that should make them better.  Around here a gently used 100 D goes for about $80-$100.

I second what Jrob78 says, great reel, I would also tell you I can throw a smidge under a 1/4 oz with mine.. I'd recommend it.
