Amarley Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I'm in the market for a new spinning rod. I want something to throw small jigs and tubes with this winter.Any recommendations? Would like to stay around/under $200. Quote

Super User .ghoti. Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 Daiwa TD-X dropshot rod it's good for anything up to 3/8 oz, not just for dropshot. In fact, I've never used it for dropshot. No longer in production, so you'll need to find a used one, but if you do find one, you'll be happy with it. Just for reference, I have two Avids, a Fenwick Elite Tech, an Airrus Tradition and two Steez spinning rods. The TD-X is better than all of them. Quote
fisherrw Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 phenix m1... get the 7'2 M. they are the best rods made in the price range. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I'm not sure what production rod would come close, but my current favorite is on a high modulus 7'1" blank rated "Mag Med-Light" and has a Fast - X-Fast tip. It handles light baits very well yet has a ton of power in the butt. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" M-XF. That's mine as well..............but good luck finding one now. They are discontinued, and you won't find too many even on sale. However, the new Elite Tech Bass rods are now out, and are just as nice. They have a 6'9" M/F rod in the new line up that feels (in the store where I have played with it) almost exactly like the smallmouth series, with the exception of the grip being a little slimmer. It's taking me every ounce.............and that's a lot of ounce's..........of self control I have to not run out and buy one just for grins and giggles. Super User WIGuide Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 I'd take a look at the St. Croix Avids. Either the 6'9" ML/XF or the 6'8" M/XF. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 I like my Dobyns Savy. I also hear great things about the Avids and Elites, as already mentioned in here. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 ML Avid or ETS. Both great rods. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 Under $200. Well, I guess that eliminates my favorites, my NRX's from G. Loomis. Sorry. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 I have some that cost 3-4x as much, but my favorite might be my ***. The blank is fantastic for $100 and it's just a really comfortable rod to fish. If not the ***, my Kistler KLX is on the list. If it had the same grip as the ***, it'd be no contest, but it's not as comfortable in hand. The performance of this rod is just stupid and it has nicer components. Liked the *** as well, though the recoil guides bugged me a bit. If I were you, I'd look into the *** or ***, especially with Black Friday sales on the horizon; should be able to score one on the cheap. The 7'1" M or ML would handle jigs and tubes just fine. Quote
rangerjockey Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 I have a Yamamoto 7ft.Medium that has been a great tube, shakey head and light hula grub rod. If memory Serves it was around $120. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" M-XF. This is my favorite as well, it is super comfortable to fish, sensitivity is great and I use it for hair jigs and small tubes this time of year and it handles them perfectly. I'm using hair jigs from 1/16oz to 1/4oz with 1/8oz being what I use the majority of the time and this rod handles them no problem. If you're catching 12" fish, you'll get a good fight but if you stick a large one you'll have enough reserve power to handle it, it is my most versatile spinning rod because in the warm water I use it for fluke Jr.s, larger tubes and shaky heads. 2 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted November 19, 2014 Super User Posted November 19, 2014 ww2farmer/smalljaw/2BC4, is this the same rod? If so, looks to be a pretty good deal. https://www.ffo-tackle.com/detail.cfm?PassProdId=6940 I've been looking for a sensitive plastic-skipping spinning rod and this looks like it would fit the bill nicely Same rod... But it's the 2pc. model. Mine is the one piece. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Phenix m1 7 ft 2 medium x-fast is my favorite spinning rod under $200 (that I own). Quote
Crappiebasser Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Avid 68MXF. It's the only spinning rod that stays in my boat year round. Quote

Super User Master Bait'r Posted November 21, 2014 Super User Posted November 21, 2014 For ~$200, it has to be 13 *** all the way. Recoils and 40 ton Toray blanks... So impressed by those rods at their price point. Even the ML had a silly amount of backbone. Quote
