Using an owner twist-lock hook seems to have solved the nose-sliding problem for me for flukes. I have not, however, found a solution to the "not enough colors" problem that is capable of avoiding the Exasperated Spouse side effect.

Strangely enough, I haven't found bass to be picky about colour when they want a fluke. Maybe I'm staying in the colour range enough that they don't care enough not to bite. It IS tempting to get all the colours that we think will work though, I feel your pain there!

It is quite possible, of course, for a "problem" to occasionally be illusory and self-serving...

Thanks so much, Mlbassyaker (How do you pronounce that?) for the tip. I have around here somewhere a cache of twist lock hooks that I can try on flukes. The color problem is most likely a brain dysfunction that I (and bass anglers in general) have that has been merely exacerbated by marketing experts and exploited by their clients. I accept full responsibility for my own meshugaas. Nevertheless, as far as my wife knows, bass change their color preferences explicitly and definitively: she thinks I am feeding the bass rather than my madness. I will not dissuade her. The lure addict, like other addicts, must fulfill his or her agenda with conviction, false or otherwise.

Yes the pain, the PAIN! Give me colours -- MORE COLOURS!

In the original Klingon, it's pronounced "Michigan Bass Kayaker", although I've removed some unnecessary syllables and compounded it. Like in Esperanto. Only cleverer.

As for lure color, I can only say with certainty it is a problem i have not solved, not that I know what kind of problem it is.

Aha! A Micheganer Kayaker! Humble thanks for the clarification! In gratitude, here's my tip for you, my friend: addend upon your nimble craft a splash of blood red paint to the underbelly at the forward keel.  Then boldly apply a flame of chartreuse along the tail of your swift machine. And glue red and plum glitter upon the paddles: that I guarantee will attract directly to your minuscule ship ravenous toads, I say, TOADS!  Biting toads for the catching!

Spooled up the Lews Tournament MB and am eagerly awaiting the *** Black Medium cranking rod! Been throwing a lot of treble lures recently so I can't wait to try it out with proper tackle.

I got one pk of each size 3/0 4/0 and 5/0 of the Cobra Heavy Cover Flippin' Hooks to try. They are on sale $1.47 a pk of 5 at TW man they look and feel very nice. Very sharp to the touch and are welded bait keeper and welded shut eye. Got a couple Jewel Bait Hole Punch Punch Skirts in Missouri Craw. And last picked up 2 of the slim plano boxes. Man these are great I never had the slim ones.

And boy am I! Paired it up and made a few practise casts this evening. Amazing combo. I think if I'd known the Tournament MB would be so much smoother I wouldn't have gone with the Speed Spool for my first combo.

Bought a Lucky Craft skeet mag a couple weeks ago. Amazing the difference in size between the finesse d20 and the mag 120 dr!

Picked up a OKUMA metaliod spinning reel. What a gorgeous piece of machinery. If you were going to pimp out a fishing reel this is it. OKUMA is the largest fishing reel manufacturer in the world. I been using the OKUMA exiptor spinning reels for decades.

The bait monkey got me today, but I got such a screaming good deal I think it is a draw lol. I had a spend 25 and get 10 off coupon from Dicks and low and behold they had a buy one get half off sale going on. I picked up 5 chatter baits and my first bag of real senkos for 16$. I think I did all right. Excited to try the chatter baits after having success with the mini chatter frogs.

I've got three reels coming and some dress up parts, will be posted in show off your stuff when they all arrive and have been tinkered with.

Oh man! The suspense! Can we get a clue as to the reels?

Nice combo Dwight! Is this your first Exscence DC? I recently purchased one and not might be one of the best reels I have ever used.

Yes first Exscence DC for me. It's replacing a calais dc for a lot less money. Hopefully I will really like it.
