I kept going back and forth on going with that one or just grab a used Steez A on my Madbull. Look for some JDM Monkey posts coming soon... the sickness is real. I wanted to come back with some more thoughts on the SD and the Zillion HD. So far I like the combo but not thrilled with power fishing with the Super Destroyer. The handle is slick but the rod is powerful, sensitive and most importantly, fun to fish. With that said, I decided to try something different and I have an NRX+ 895c on the way. I was going to wait but found it at price I couldn't pass up. Quote

I went in today looking to see if they still had any (they didn't) but when this GLF scanned at $17.49 I couldn't pass it up. Gotta love part time temp Holiday help... 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 8, 2022 Super User Posted October 8, 2022 I was going to wait until next year but I reached out to one my rod sources and got a NRX+ 895C shipped for $470. I haven't used it yet but it is much lighter feeling that I thought it would be. I am pairing it with my Zillion HD. 11 Quote

I have been looking for one locally but all I ever saw was a glx 855, I really want to get a 895 in the future. That’s definitely a very nice setup for a really decent price. Quote

Gentleman & Ladies, I don’t want to exclude ol’crickety I pulled off the almost impossible trifecta last night, Baits, Beer & Garage Gear ? It was a dangerous mission as I was with the better half (AKA the wife?) when the dreaded monkeys climbed on my back as I entered the local Wal Mart, but I was not to be stopped as I was a man on a mission. I deftly maneuvered the unavoidable “Do you really need any of this” question by going to the washroom before she could see that I put the jigs and tape measure under the giant box of taquitos for my son and his friends coming by for dinner tonight, and I used the “I’ll scan” the giant roll of toilet paper and paper towels where I sneakily placed my 12 pack of beer on the bottom of the cart?. Yes it was a dangerous mission but I pulled it off and I’m proud to say I’m ready and willing to try it again with crank baits and maybe just maybe soft plastics next time, wish me luck or send detailed plans on how to pull off my next mission ???? 7 3 Quote

I had a GLX 895 that I sold off it was WAY too tip heavy… I am still trying to evaluate it but so far it's not too bad. It can handle flipping and pitching well and regular casting is great as long as you stick with the rods sweet spot (around 1/2-3/4oz). Sensitivity is what you would expect of any NRX+ but it is powerful and it maybe too powerful for the 4lb (if I'm lucky) and under bass I mostly catch. I have only caught one fish with it and I about took its head off. My thoughts on this are kind of mixed in general with idea of rods being tip heavy. I have tried/bought/picked up several rods that I hear others claim are tip heavy and I don't always see it that way. I think it comes down to what you are use to and your expectations. If you put on a 1/2oz or heavier jig with a heavy trailer (beaver for example), any stout rod it is going to feel tip heavy with a reel that weighs around 6-7oz or less. I feel these rods are more designed to pull fish from heavy cover. If you expect it to feel like a 7' MH or H Fast rod, I don't think you will ever get the same balance with an X-Heavy or some Heavy rods for that mater. If you really want to confuse things, ask me later how it compares to the 904C NRX+ I bought earlier this year. I am still trying to sort this one out myself. Quote

thomas15 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I'm not one to start threads and even when I do usually there will be one or two responses because you know like I really can't think of anything interesting or intelligent to ask about . So I respond to others in threads and this particular thread about the Invasive Monkey of Bait Acquisition and Ownership (IMBAO) which is really fun to read because we all are affected in one way or another by this rascal. This year I decided to step back from the various activities that consume my free time and just do a few things that in theory would not cost a lot of money (Ha Ha) and try to figure out exactly what do I really want to do with my time and recreation bux and so I simply discontinued for the year several very expensive and time consuming hobbies and thought it time to revive my fishing habit which had been dormant for about 4 years. In my mind there is an advantage here because my spouse and I can do this together (another Ha Ha). I spent about 6 weeks getting the SS Minnow back into ship shape and going through all my fishing gear and tackle. I have a couple fishing rods and reels I don't even remember getting them or for what purpose and so much baits and lures and stuff, stuff I forget how to actually rig up. So yeah I want to lay victim to this IMBAO thingy because it's like a lot of fun but I think there is a market for therapies for memory enhancement and improvement so that I can figure out what this particular unit of tackle is for , Anyone else feel the same or see the need? 1 Quote

First off don’t let the monkey hear you talking like that. There is always a need for new stuff that both you and the wife will need to try?. As far as knowing what your current gear would be good for I’m sure if you list what you have you’ll find plenty of help on here as far as putting it to good use. Good luck Quote
Bassnpanfish Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 d**n the bait monkey really got me a year or so ago; I bought a crazy amount of rods reels and baits, well over 500-600 bucks. I kinda regret it now lol. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 12, 2022 Super User Posted October 12, 2022 Had to replenish my swim jig supply. If you guys fish Midwest style swim jigs check out Brovarney’s. I’ve used his jigs for years and caught tons of fish on them. 7 Quote

Ordered Sunday eve, shipped Monday late afternoon, got here 1:30 this afternoon Gotta love it when a used/excellent condition one is only $143 with tax Gone through it - can't find a blemish or anything anywhere on it...basically like new. 12 Quote

I've honestly never noticed until you pointed it out. Also it's a bit hard to tell in pics but the inside part of the skirt is trimmed away so it's just the outside strands, which gives them an awesome flare in the water. 2 Quote

Will be curious to hear how much backbone this has. I have the MHM 7'2" and it didn't have enough backbone for the purpose I bought it for. Love the rod though and it is always in the boat. If this has a lot of backbone I may pick one up. Purpose is spinnerbaits in dense reeds and need to control the fish so I don't get wrapped around a reed. Quote

Ya...spinners, chatters, small hard swimbaits (Bucca Gill/Shad, etc) are the target lures for this and it'll be getting my Patriarch 7.9 (32-IPT) mounted. 1 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted October 13, 2022 Super User Posted October 13, 2022 So the irony is not lost on me with this post. I still hate the price of the Edge boxes, but here we go with my fifth edge box. The 3700 flex was as cheap as I have seen it at TW and it will work perfectly for my spinnerbait build box. Will set up a compartment for the frames and if my components and skirts fit in there like I think they will, I will make a compartment for the tools to make them. Will wrap the tools in something to keep the from damaging the box when it gets bounced around. That purple haze skirt color has been a hot one for me and smoke purple skirt material did well on a bait I made for my father in law. The other two colors are time will tell. 7 Quote

Good luck with that new Victory. I have not handled the casting models yet. When I retired a few months back two of my coworkers bought me the Victory VTS73MXF. I’m use to being able to having my grip at the reel seat and having my index finger touch the blank. The cork fore grip is longer than normal and doesn’t allow me to do this. At first I thought this rod was gonna be a bust with me. But I’ve been fishing my soft plastics exclusively for more than a month+ with it. I love it now. When landing a fish my hand shifts forward to the fore grip and actually gives me better control when landing fish and the longer butt section lays against my fore arm better. The rod is probably designed to be fished this way. I knew no better at first. SC labels it as a “Max Tactical”, whatever that means? I’m fishing smaller plastics with it now but next season I’ll use it for larger stick baits and worms. Hope you like yours, I love mine nowadays. 1 Quote
