Maybe just a couple eventually. 702sf is replacing a Lew's TP-1 ML, so I got a spinning reel for it.

What reel did you get for yours?

I got one of those rods this year myself - putting the President-25 that HAD been my UL reel on it. Got a President-20 for the UL.

I already had a Shimano Sienna that I got on sale for $20 about 3 months ago. I don't spend much on spinning gear, it's not something I do a lot of. My best spinning reel is only a Daiwa Revros LT, but it's on a St.Croix right now.

I love the Revros and I think the Sienna is also good for the price, but I can't really say as I've never used a high end spinning reel.

I always hear great things about the President though, I will probably give them a try in the future.

What all do you use your 702sf for? The TP-1 ML has softer tip but not as strong, and it has a microwave guide.

If you do go for the President - make sure it's a 2019 or earlier model...they did some redesign and from what I've heard it's not as good anymore. I have been impressed with the Trion-30 I used last year, and got a 35 for my MH spinning rig.

President-25 on the 702SF is my new finesse rig - replaces the Mitchell Avocet combo I used last year. Avocet is now my shore-fishing rig - stored in the truck rather than on the canoe.

I agree on not spending a ton on spinning reels. Tonight trout fishing, I was using a Shakespeare Excursion ($20) that has got to be 20 years old now that has caught me a ton of bass. At some point I will retire it, but it just keeps working lol. Most expensive spinning reels are either the Daiwa Regals or the Presidents, but since both were bought on sale no clue which is the pricier reel. The only thing with the Daiwas is they break bail springs. All 3 have broke at least one, not sure why they haven't fixed the issues.

No clue why other than the monkey I would need an expensive spinning reel. Baitcasters I get to a point because of the casting controls.

Trust me... you're gonna just love that glass rod. I've got one. I try to use it whenever I can.

A few Catching Concepts I've picked up in the last few months. Pics don't do these baits justice, at least this one doesn't.

I picked up some small stuff while venturing out into the danger zone yesterday at Walmart & Ollie's.

Walmart had some Frogg Toggs rain pants for $7.49 in their fishing clearance section, it's a youth size L/XL, but I'm 6ft. 170 lbs and they fit fine. They should be good for early Spring and Late Fall kayaking when the water is cold. They did have a jacket also, but is was size S/M, and no way that was happening. The Monkey and I also couldn't refuse picking up a few more Bitsy Bugs for like $1.74 and I'm trying some Cotton Cordell Lipless out for the first time.

I also went to Ollie's to get some more of that $3.99 Vicious 330 yds line, but the Monkeu picked out a few other things while there including my first Luck-E-Strike lures. They still had plenty of Chatterbaits for $3.99 there, but I resisted them.

I actually found the Chartreuse Squarebill in the 2nd pic, while fishing yesterday. I'm not sure of the brand, but it weighs 1/2 oz and looks brand new. I think it was a present from the Bait Monkey for doing such a good job lately.

Time will tell but the Bubble walker 80 looks identical to the Popmax for half the price. Really happy I picked one up.

The Bubble Walker is a great bait. I've never done any good on a Popmax, but I've killed them on a Bubble Walker 80 many, many times.

What kind of rod/reel do you recommend for the BW, Blue?

I fish mine on either a 6' 2" M/XF or 6' 8" M/F, both with 20lb braid and a 7.2 reel.

Is that your same setup for a jerkbait?

Yes, except I fish a slower reel and mono with a jerkbait. The 6' 2" is better for when I want to fish it in place. The 6' 8" is better when I'm moving the bait forward more.

I've been debating between a 7 or 8 for a jerkbait reel. Being that you want some slack in the line and move the baits with your rod I was leaning towards the 8 to take up slack quickly. But you seem to like a 7 for this?

I use a 6.3 for jerkbaits. I find I overfish my jerkbaits with a faster reel. I do have one jerkbait rod with a 7 ratio reel but I use it for big jerkbaits I fish when the water is warm and I'm moving them very fast. All the rest of my jerkbait reels are 6 ratios and even had a 5.0:1 I used for quite awhile before switching to all 6 ratios for continuity.

I am completely new to jb fishing. I bought a jb specific rod and about 20 nice jerkbaits for the job. I was thinking with an 8 I could just give it half or a full turn easily enough and not have to worry about it much. But I could certainly see over reeling it. Which I knew what to do LOL
