I am new to bass fishing. As I read more and more about it, especially different techniques, I find myself buying more and more tackle. In a short time I now have somewhere around 25 bags of different soft plastics plus a bunch of terminal tackle.

My newest purchase arrived today. A 7'6" heavy/fast Fitzgerald Vursa Rod and a Abu Garcia Revo SX reel with Fitzgerald Vursa braid for Carolina rigging and flipping/pitching.

Whoops!

Got some new jig supplies, netbait paca chunk trailers, some rage bugs, sweet beavers, and some d bombs. Went “easy” on the jigs only buying 5 as I plan on giving sieberts a holler soon. Also went for some 7” senkos (man those things are fat haha), some shaky heads, and some more leader material. The monkey has struck again.

Paca Chunk and Craw are my favorite jig trailers.

Evidently May in the disposal business is the busiest month of the year when the weather is nice. I didn't know that last year as it was my 2nd month on this job, plus it rained every day. This year not so much. SO, I have had lots of nice overtime wads of cash to upgrade my tackle without putting a dime on a credit card, or spending any of my "normal" pay. Bonus....a busy week now is 50 hours, where as for the last 20 years on the farm it was 70+, so I get to buy new tackle AND use it now instead of during slow times on the farm.

I have been beating the drum a lot lately for Daiwa upping their budget game on sub $100 rods/reels with Aird X and Fuego rods, as well as the Fuego CT, and Revros spinning reels................BUT, I just had to test the Shimano waters once again to see how their budget stuff compares. So, I got the $69.99 Caenan 151A /Power Pro spool of line special coming from TW, as well as a Shimano  6'10" M/F Exage casting rod to go with it. I have not had a Shimano product in the boat since the end of the 2012 season when I sold off my Citica and Curado E series reels. I have my eyes on Exage spinning rod and 2500 size Sahara for use as  dedicated Neko rig rod as well, but thats for the next order.

So while searching for a popper rod, I stumbled across some bargain finds that I just couldn't pass up:

* Daiwa Zillion 7'4 HRB (Heavy/Mod Fast)

* Daiwa Zillion 7'2 MHRB-G (MH/Mod Fast Glass)

I'm going to use the 7'4 HRB for throwing horny toads into heavy cover, and large plastic swimbaits like 7" Keitechs. It seems like there's just enough tip, but plenty of backbone for heavy cover. I may even try it for flipping jigs.

I am unsure about the 7'2 MHRB-G though. I want to get into crankbaits since I now have a small bass boat, and I will probably have to fish deeper when the full heat of summer gets here. This rod is noticeably heavier than the 7'4 HRB, I weighed them using my fish scale, and the HRB came out to 4.0oz while the MHRB-G came out to 6.5oz. The rod itself is pretty thick, almost like a Mag Heavy blank. I couldn't find much info about the MHRB-G version of the Zillion cranking rod, so I'm not sure if it's a composite rod or full glass rod. It does have a very nice parabolic bend though, it goes from a soft tip and then nothing when it hits the backbone. I may try it out with heavy moving single hook lures, like a 1/2oz Jackhammer first.

And I got some Jackhammers that were buy one, get one 50% off at Dicks that I stacked with their 20% off coupon.

Edit: Oh yeah, I bought a 6'8 Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Tournament Jerkbait rod to see if it fit the bill as my popper rod. Unfortunately the handle is too long for my liking and the guides feel cheap as dirt. It's going back.

Dick's had a buy 3 get 1 free sale on Keitech lures. Picked up some Easy Shaker 4.5's to try them out. I'm thinking of rigging them like a senko wacky rigged.

Couple days ago I picked up a 3/8oz Strike King Hack Attack Select Toadbuzz in pearl toads and a pack of Strike King KVD Perfect Plastics green pumpkin pearl belly Blade Minnows. Yesterday I picked up a 3/8oz Strike King swinging swim jig green pumpkin color with a Trokar hook for $1.68 on clearance(figured at that price I can't go wrong) and a pack of bama bug Rage Tail Rage Craws. Hope I can get out tomorrow and try them out. I wish we carried the Z Man Jackhammer chatterbait at work. I really want one, even though it doesn't come in my favorite color.

Stepped on one of my rods last week when I was on the boat, and broke a couple of guides... Good reason to get a new rod... So I bought 2... They were 50 percent off at DSG. Lews Carbon Fire 7' MH F Casting, and a 6'8" ML F spinning. The spinning will be great for some drop shotting, the tip has some great action.

Over the weekend I hit DSG and picked up the Lews Crush combo using the 20% off one item coupon, and picked up a Lunkerhunt prop sunfish, prop frog, and Prop Turtle (didn't see this on TW) on their 3 for 20 deal. Also for spending over 100 they gave me 20 bucks to spend on my next visit. My twisted math then figures I got the Lews combo for 140;)
