That's my new dropshot reel, for a rod that has yet to be constructed.

Scott,

I would be very interested in hearing your impressions are the reel. The previous gen model was on my short list for a long time but couldn't justify the purchase and I missed when they cleared they out on JLS. The new model looks great.

I have nothing to judge it by as I own no other JDM stuff. Prior to this, my best spinning reel was a Sustain 2500FD.

The first thing I was surprised to see was there is no anti-reverse switch. Makes no difference to me, but it would be a deal breaker for some. It has a rubber seal on the handle where it screws into the body, another first for me. The drag knob also has a seal. I can't remember if my Sustain has that it not.

I LOVE the shallow spool. I only put 50 yards of braid on my reels, so this one won't require much backer. It supposedly only holds 115yds of 4#.

It may be a few weeks before I get it on the water as I haven't even started building the rod yet! Its going on a 5S610MLXF-B extended to 7'. Split Tennessee grip and Torzite guides.

If the CI4 didn't look so good on my NFC DS610, I'd consider getting a C2000HGS for it.

Getting bit by the bait monkey isn't so bad when compared to the bite of the Boat Monkey!

For all you guys who's wife gives you are hard time about the bait monkey. Remind her that the boutique monkey is a real thing as well. I told my wife she was a victim of the boutique monkey and I explained to her what it was and she started laughing and and was like "that' a real thing." She has since quit giving me as much grief about the bait monkey.

Why switch? Just use both hands! Twice as many reels to buy!

Confession -- It's been ~60 days since my last tackle purchase! Ā

Ā

After going through the last dozen or so pages of this thread I've decided that there are about 10 things I need and another 10 that I don't even know I'll buy until checkout time. Ā

Ā

Thanks guys! Ā

Ā

BTW - this is one of the best threads I've read. Ā Love it! Ā

Really wishing I would have gone with a C140 instead of the R135 I got. Ā  They are sweet boats and dry.

Ok after looking at your post the ATAK is awesome. Ā I would love to see one of these in person.

Warm weather is here now. So the bait monkey pretty much takes a vacation until the winter. I'll pick up some stuff that I get low on through the season. Not much in the way of big purchases though. Today was 2 packs of green pumpkin fat ikas for Saturday's trip. That's it.

This week a new Humminbird 899si, 7 foot Shimano Clarus crankbait rod ($40), 4 Spro BBZ1 Shad ($12 ea), pack money minnows ($5), Megastrike jigs ($4.50), 2 packs Zoom Big Dead Ringer, Rapala Skitter Rap, and a 1/2 oz inline Meps spinner. Local mom pop tackle shop retiring. They have a Cumara Rod for $100, retail is close to $200. This could get real bad, took a picture to post somehow deleted it. Post it tomorrow.
