ThatFishin'Guy Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 ^ those jointed shad raps are killer. One of my top producing baits Quote
Mothercanucker Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have a dozen or so of them too but have only caught anything on that brown and red firecraw one. Quote
WolfyBrandon Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I have a dozen or so of them too but have only caught anything on that brown and red firecraw one. I've been throwing a perch colored one earlier this year but haven't had any results. Honestly I haven't had much success on perch colored baits (not that I throw them a lot) but that could be because when I do I haven't had much luck. Thought I would give a few new colors a try, then switch back and see what happens. Not saying perch color wont work, that could be any given bait on any specific day. WolfyBrandon Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 Scored a Daiwa SS SV for a really good price, and as a bonus it has a $65 set of Slp works knobs. Been wanting one of these for awhile now. 2 Quote
robster80 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Where to start... I spent over a grand in the last 5 days and about 3000 since January, fortunately I have an understanding wife and semi disposable income!. Its cold and everything is semi ice covered up here in WI, spring sales going on.... Something had to give! Package I am expecting Monday has.... 5 Daiwa Lexa baitcasters ($70, how can you not? Great reels at full retail) marker bouys 2 Senko bulk packs and some misc stuff that I just don't remember off hand And today, I went and picked up 700 tubes. now i feel better about the grand ive spent so far this season lol Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 30, 2015 Author Super User Posted March 30, 2015 I have admittedly gotten so deep into so many different types of baits, that I often can't decide what to try next. I'll go bank fishing after work and I'll bring along maybe three out of my 10 or so bass rods. Now its Spring so any bait might work. Should I bring a senko, a jig, a spinnerbait, a frog, any of three swimbaits, or a crankbait or maybe a buzzbait? I can't bring everything, nor would I have time to tie on everything, and due to the possibilities I am perpetually in a state of disorganized bait confusion. Last month I caught my biggest fish of the year, a nice 7.6 pounder, on a pegged SK Rodent flipped into thick pads. It turns out I had received the Rodent in a gifted mystery tackle box. I reiterate: That random Rodent caught my biggest fish of the year! So now, of course I have boxes of Strike King Perfect Plastics Caffeine Rodents in every color and size -- and my garage smells like old coffee. To go with the Rodents I am now loaded with flipping hooks, tungsten weights, bobber stoppers, and #50 plus braid line. And I can now snell a heavy gauge flipping hook with my eyes closed. Tonight I went fishing for ninety minutes in a local pond. Caught five fish: two on a SK Rodent: a one and a two pounder; a half pounder and a dink on a Yum Dinger (dark red with red flakes), and a vicious three pounder on black skirted buzz bait. So that didn't narrow things down! So many bassers get all shopping crazed from catching one big fish on something new, and immediately get more of them, and do the same on whatever bait we see a friend catch a big one or good numbers on. Or we respond to some ad or article or You Tube vid. I keep trying new things, because the "grass is always greener." Us bassers are the best thing that ever happened to the bait and tackle venders, of course. But I'd rather be the type of angler that has a sensible tried and true collection of baits that work for him or her. One that knows when and how to use those established baits really really well, keeps it all well organized, and uses them to catch bass every season of the year. An angler that considers new toys with a little healthy skepticism. And one that knows how to buy their basic baits in bulk for a lot less money. Also maybe consider selling some of the gear and putting it towards an inexpensive kayak. You've got to get off the shore, man! 10 rods and no boat. Crazy talk!! Quote

fisherrw Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Can't beat 24 crankbaits for $80. abu interest in selling any of them? Quote
Dylcook91 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Went to dicks looking for a small, light kayak that I could hike with and take to more out of the way ponds...I found this on my phone as I was walking around the store. They didn't have it in stock so I ordered it to the store, just waiting for them to get it now. 8.5ft (should fit inside my car) 40lbs 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 This one came and went without much fanfare. I found it (again) quite by accident as an old spool I had resurface while I was looking for some backing. Decided to try it as a main line, been using it (secretly) for a while. Turns out I really like it. I have been able to stock up on bulk spools for a fraction of the original cost. (which was very reasonable) It’s now my new (but old) favorite Mono. A-Jay Quote
Super User Gundog Posted March 30, 2015 Super User Posted March 30, 2015 Fire Crawdad Indeed, I just might have to use it tomorrow! WolfyBrandon Looks like a smallmouth killer too me. I got a bunch of those in various colors in my lure boxes as well. Quote
