ImClay Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 What gear ratio should I use for flipping and pitching? I've had many people tell me 7:1:1 but I want to make sure. Thanks. Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Any high ratio reel is what most people will recommend. This aids in quickly picking up slack, turning fish from cover (also aided by rod) and allowing for fast back to back presentations. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted November 17, 2014 Super User Posted November 17, 2014 I like higher speed reels around 30 IPT, But like a lot of people are gonna say its mostly preference. Quote
illinifan4152 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Like a broke record... High gear ratios. I prefer anything in the 7.x:1 range Quote
papajoe222 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 For flipping, I really don't see any advantage for a 7.1 over a standard 6.3 as you're working with such a short length of line and also because you aren't reeling line in for each flip. For pitching, if nothing else, it (7.1) gets your line in faster and that translates to more casts. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 18, 2014 Super User Posted November 18, 2014 Broken record time. I like 7.3:1 for both. Quote
