The JWR852C will be perfect.

:winter-146:

Very much so. I have the 852c green and love it for everything light and tiny but nobody ever talks about how underrated these rods are as far as weight rating. The 852 is rated to 3/8oz but I'd say it has the power to easily go higher. The backbone in these NRX rods is unbelievable, they are extremely stout.

As with all finesse rods, I'd want to stick w the lower power if I could, as it will cast much better. If say unless you were planning on throwing around baits at the high end of that rating I would stick with the 2 power. It's a hell of a stick and it will surprise you with how powerful it actually is.

You are talking about the NRX right? But what about the GLX? Do they have the same tip?

Is the GLX as stout as the NRX? Or softer?

Sorry I missed that part. I have never fished the GLX.

That the problem, the 852 is a medium and is rated up to 3/8 and the 853 is rated up to 5/8 and is a medium-heavy, I don´t know if I´m thinking right but if it was a medium with a top rating of 5/8 I wouldn´t even think twice because it would have some backbone, but I´m affraid that the 852 will not have the power and the 853 will be too stiff (being a MH rod it will flex less)....and since I can´t hold them before I buy it and they are not a $50 rod....that´s way I´m trying to figure it out.

1/8-1/4oz weight + plastic in open water/light cover = 853

It sounds like you want a specific answer. What exactely do you want to know?

Basically if the 853C JWR´s tip is soft enough to cast with ease and far a 3/16oz weight, does it load well to throw out there a 3/16?

3/16 oz + plastic , yes. Total weight will be around 5/16 or 3/8 depending on bait. You will have no issues

And what about 1/8oz plus plastic?

You will be able to cast it just fine but ideally the 852 would be bettet suited for that in terms of sheer distance. I would rather throw a 1/8 oz + plastic on the 853 then a 1/4oz-5/16 on the 852. If at some point you get a fish wrapped in wood or junk, you will be glad you have the 853. If you are never throwing in cover and this rod will be 100% open water, the 852 would be a better choice as more often than not you're probably throwing 1/8 and 3/16. Add in any element of cover, get the 853 for 3/16-5/16.

I usually use my 853 for 5/16 and up..I would agree 3/16 and a plastic of some kind would be fine.. I personally wouldn't go any lighter..1/8 oz.. Id be looking at the 2 power.

Can you tell me how much in casting distance would I lose with the 853 (aprox.)?

Hard to say. Depends on reel, how well you can cast, etc. it will be easier to throw the 1/8 on the 852 though.

I plan to mount on it a Metanium...

Thank you very much for everything, you are a saint!

I would go with the 853. 1/8oz with a decent sized worm or craw is going to be at least 3/16-1/4, the 3/8+plastic will be over 1/2. Casting long distances, the little bit of added power may be necessary to help get those hooks to stick em too.

I agree with this and I own this rod,..but his assessment a worm or craw would make it a bit heavier.  I'd go with the 853, for me the 852 would be more for weightless.

Thanks,

And since you own it, can you tell me about the rod? Especially its tip, where it flex, how and how much does it flex, how is the rod´s tip?

This is getting really intense. Four pages, and we're nowhere...lol.

You are helping alot...

Personally, I don't think you're looking for help. You ask, "why"? Simple, nothing's helping.

Hootie,

I do think he is looking for help. The man is in Portugal and unlike us, he doesn't have a Bass Pro Shops down the street that he can visit and handle every rod in the store. Buying an expensive rod that you can't hold is risky so I don't fault him for wanting to be as close to 100% sure of his purchase as he can be.
