Hello

I´m a bankfisherman and I´m looking for a texas rig rod, I mainly fish with a 1/8 - 3/16oz weight plus the plastic bait, sometimes due to the wind factor I go up to a 1/4oz weight.
But we all try to cover all the angles and so I think, and if someday I need to use a 5/16 or even a 3/8oz? If I want to fish deeper or further (if this happens it would be very very very, very occasionally).
I don´t fish in heavy cover, maybe sometimes in sparse cover.

I´m looking to the GLX JWR casting rod line up and I don´t know if I will chosse the 852, the 853 or even the 854...is the 852 the right choice? Can the 853 cast a 1/8oz t-rig and handle a 3/8oz? Will the 854 load a 1/8oz as well?
Since I´m a bankfisherman I think a 7´1" rod would be a good choice to improve casting distance, now I only need to choose the rod´s power...I´m leaning toward the 853, am I choosing right? And being so I think the main question is, does the 853´s tip loads well and can cast well a 1/8oz t-rig? What do you guys think?

I´ve been searching and reading and still can´t figure it out which of them would be a better choice. Here where I live I can´t go to a shop and handle the rods and since there isn´t an industry standard and every manufacturer has their own concept of rod´s power and action (and I´m not familiar with G. Loomis´rods) I really don´t know what to choose. And also don´t want to wast money in something that isn´t what I´m looking for and need. Can you help me?
Give me some input please and shed some light on this.

Thanks.

Regards.

I had the old version of the 803 and to me it was a magic wand but recently I broke in my car door and replaced it through the xpediter service.  The new version is growing on me but it is a different animal.  Personally I like the shorter length of the 803 for bank fishing.  It is accurate and loads quickly, making long distance casts easy.  I have paired it with a Chronarch 51e and occasionally a Core 101.

You need two different rods if you want to use an 1/8oz all the way to 3/8oz. Maybe 3 rods depending how big your plastic is with the 3/8oz. I have the NRX802C and I use to have the BCR802C and IMHO, there is no way you are fishing a 3/8oz bullet weight with these rods. If you stick to the 1/8 to 3/16oz, I would go with the 852. I have never used the 852 but I know that it will handle the lighter weights better than the 853. My guess is no, the 853GLX will not load properly with an 1/8oz weight. I don't even like how my NRX802 loads with an 1/8oz but it's definitly better than my NRX803. I originally tried a 1/8 finesse jig with trailer with my 802 and with FC, I did not like how it loaded and casted. A 3/16oz is much better. If I were going to use a 5/16 to 3/8oz weight, I am using my MBR844. I'll be honest with you, I prefer the old MBR Fast Action rods to to the BCR and NRX Extra Fast. I think a rod that you may want to consider is the great, old reliable, tried and true MBR843GLX. I have the IMX and it's just a fantastic rod.

I would go with the 853. 1/8oz with a decent sized worm or craw is going to be at least 3/16-1/4, the 3/8+plastic will be over 1/2. Casting long distances, the little bit of added power may be necessary to help get those hooks to stick em too.

Just would like to add that would´t be just 1/8oz, would be a 1/8oz weight plus a SK Rage Craw or a Baby Brush Hog or something like that...

And does the 853 have a true lure rating? Does it load well with 3/16oz weight?

With your 803 could you cast easily a ptl craw d´oeuvre (or something like it) with a 1/8 - 3/16oz bullet weight?

The JWR852C will be perfect.

Wouldn´t it be on the weak side with a heavier weight on it?

But if you could go with only one of those (852/3/4), what would be your choice?

If you are going to fish the heavier weights that you mentioned, I would get the 853.

From your original post: "I mainly fish with a 1/8 - 3/16oz weight plus the plastic bait".

For those weight plus trailers the 852 is perfect.

And with a 1/4 weight?

I never went over 1/4oz, but I might one day, don´t know....

I never fished with a ex-fast rod, that´s my concern...

Because if it was to fish only with 1/8 - 3/16oz weights plus trailers I would go with the 852 (as RW suggested), but if the 853´s ex-fast tip loads well with a 3/16oz I would choose it because it would be a more versatile rod.

I just don´t know how is the G. Loomis GLX ex-fast fast action...can you help me?

Like I said in my earlier post, I like the Loomis fast actions better than the extra fast. If I was using a 3/16oz bullet weight with just a Trick Worm or a Rage Tail Craw, I am going to use my NRX802. I know of another member that told me that he uses his 802 with 1/4oz. I assume he meant 1/4oz plus the plastic. Anything heavier and he goes to the 803.

Sure.  I use a 1/8oz bullet weight with a Zoom Lizard all the time and never have an issue.  I also through 4in and 5in senkos weightless with this rod and again no issues.

Keep in mind a T-rig, with 1/8 oz bullet weight and 6"-7" worm weighs in excess of 14 oz. most 3/8 oz jigs with skirt and trailer exceeds 1/2 oz. 3 power fast action rod is minimum power and proper action for T-rigs or a jig rod. I would suggest the 853 for your application and use smaller diameter 10-12# FC line

Thanks. I usually use 0.30mm line (going up max. 0.32mm and dow to 0.28mm)

14 oz. Those worms must be as big around as a pepperoni. Sorry Tom, I couldn't resist...lol.
