My Rod Is Better Than Yours

Seems like a lot of people these days fish with seven rods and match a rod with every lure type, not to mention types of line.  Is there any love to those of us who just take "our fishing rod" to fish?

There ya go, trying to stir the pot....didn't we just have a post about being civil?  And to be honest, I have more then 7.  Some of us regular folks take a few rods to fish with and the more into it you get, the more specialized you start to become with your rods and reels. The more techniques you learn the more rods you aquire to excel with those techniques.  But as long as your catching fish, it doesn't matter, the rod doesn't catch the fish, the fisherman holding that rod does, weather he has 1 rod, or has 10 strapped to the front of his boat.  I normally carry at least 3 when I'm bank fishing.....all for different applications just incase I need to adjust my presentation.

If you have one rod and you get pleasure from it, more power to you. If I could have one, it would be the champ 734.

However, I consider myself pretty common in that I have an average job. I just don't party, smoke, hunt, have kids or a house so I spend my money on my favorite hobby.

Therefore I own two of the 734's lol

I personally know that there is one of our sponsors who loves to catch big bass.  He fishes with only one rod and reel.  I'm not going to reveal his secrets here.  As far as I am concerned you can catch 98% of your bass with a medium/heavy rod and any average reel, whether it be spinning or bait casting.  It's the person on one end of the line and the lure on the other end of the line that make the difference.

No, I know why people take multiple rods.  More like, is there anyone on here who just takes one?

I only take one rod when I'm dedicated to the swimbait bite....that way there isn't a reason for me to put it down and try something else.  And during the summer I normally always have 2, may not fish both, but always have a frog/topwater and then my punch/pitching set up for the grass mats.  Besides, it's hard to just pick one when I have so many.....lol

I'm slightly confused. When I take 1 rod or 7, it's to fish them but yes I take only 1 when bank fishing. On the boat. Well that's a whole different story.

When you have a whole set of golf clubs, it makes it hard to only take the 5 iron.

Your doing it wrong. Why only take 1 rod when throwing swimbaits? You need to replace all the rods you put away with more giant swimbait rods.

Well I do have 2 now, lol, just don't always bring both and really like the looks of the new Diawa Swimbait rods or an IROD.....guess I should have one for the hudd, one for the line thru, ofcourse need one for the triple-trout....oh and then an XH for those 10oz baits....ok, gotta go make some online purchases for these new set ups.

Mine probably aren't better but I have 7 in the boat with me. 4 baitcasting and 3 spinning.

Who cares if someone has 1 or 10 as long as your catching fish it should be good.

I take only one most of the time. Most of my fishing trips involve fishing from the bank, the truth is that I only need one rod so that's what I take.

If I fished repetitive scenarios then yes I would just have one rod. No wait, I would have more than one rigged up with similar lures.

Even if I know for sure I'm only fishing 1 bait the entire day, I still have extra rods rigged with different colors, weights, line, etc.   If I'm pond hopping, I might only get one rod out of the car but there are others ready if I need them.

I'll do a similar thing when I'm pond hopping in my "4-wheeled bass boat, equipped with a 2-legged trolling motor". I might have up to 7 rods (including an ultralight, hehe) in the trunk, but usually at most one casting and one spinning rod comes out to play at a time.

Yea I have been thinking about those DX rods. I mean for a $100 or whatever they are you can get into the game easy with those. Not to mention they have one that goes to like 13 or 15 oz. I will probably pick one up next year or something and give them a shot. I am also interested in trying a Tatula HD for some stuff.

When I'm committed to the swimbait is the only time I take 1 rod (even then I'll usually have a couple different swimbait rods). Even bank fishing ponds I'm going to have 3 with me a majority of the time, if not more.
