So here in Georgia I only know of about 12 people who throw big swimbaits. None of those live or fish any where close to west point lake. So this year I've been hitting it hard with glides and linker punkers today I caught 4 fish on the punker none bragging size! Biggest 4.6 lbs but right before dark I came across a long point adjoined by an underwater island. Never caught a fish off of it before but I had a randy Howell moment in bass master and motored in shallow and fired a Deps 250 slide swimmer across the point toward the island. Three quarter turns of the reel and I have a massive strike set the hook and ski a 9lb striper to the boat two cast later and I'm in awe as I see a giant shadow aggressively following the Deps back to the boat as it gets closer I can't believe my eyes! It's a largemouth! Biggest I've ever seen in person. If I had to estimate it was bigger than my pb of 11lbs and was easily 26" and at least 13lbs! She followed all the way boat side and even followed a figure 8 until it lost interest and slowly swam away only to follow it back on the next cast only this time boat side she lunged at the 250 after a 180 directional change. Only it was way too exciting and I jerked it out of her mouth! I have that punched in the gut feeling and I'm sure I won't sleep tonight. With the nation wide front moving in tomorro I may not get the chance to catch her ever again!

Don't be so sure, big fish live where they find the best feed.  Odds are she won't move far from that point, just out deeper.  You're not the first or last person to ever get excited and pull the bait out of a big fishes mouth.  Did it last fall on about an 8lber on the 68.  Watched her role open up suck the bait in and I swung which quickly removed my bait from her open mouth.....Yep, user error sucks!!! Watch the water temps and if it doesn't drop too much go out and give it another shot.  Worse case, may have to slow role that Huddleston out a little deeper.

Wow ~

That Deps 250 sounds like it may be defective - better send it to me.

I'll look it over for you.

Here, let me get you my address . . . . :laugh5:

Seriously though, she's going to hang right there - she lives there and you'll be able to go back there at some point and take care of business.

I was worried it would cost money to read a post about a deps! I would go back as soon as the temps balance out for a couple days, even if it's freezing cold. Bass will eat glides in pretty cold water

Yea I'm sure I'm the only guy here who throws the 250 here. that bait in my opinion is worth all 150 I paid for it! Never got a lot of bites on it but I've seen more fish over 5 pounds fishing this bait for the last year than I've caught in the last 5 years. Not a magic bait but pretty close

Welcome to the swimbait world....def no magic bullet and you can't catch every fish you see.  But great search bait in locating those larger fish and learning their locations.

It's crazy how the Dep's can bring in followers like no other. I personally don't have one would love to get my hand's on one though. I got some other glide bait's and a Hudd rigged up to hit the lake this weekend. Hopefully I'll at least be able to see a giant then trick em into biting!

150 is a steal for that bait. They'll keep climbing in value and exclusivity I bet.

Keep chucking it.
