New Lures You Tried In 2014 That Did Not Work?

 Did any of you buy any new lures over the winter/spring of 2013/2014 that you tried this spring and summer and did not have any success with them or found they are a bust?  

 

 I wanted to try my Coppers Live Bait Ball crank bait but didn't use it much this year.  I tried it a few times and only caught a blue gill.  lol.  The more I look at it the more stupid it looks.  

 

 I also bought some Spy Bait lures and tried them only once but did not catch anything.  I think they might work good when the bass are biting.  I'm going to give them another try in 2015.  I'm not sure I will use that bait ball in 2015.  

 

 So what about you all?  Any disappointments in new lures that did not turn out so good?

I bought a bunch of the Rapala scatter lures this spring. Didn't have much luck on them the first few times and just stuck with my regular DT's, countdowns, and shad raps.

Picked up a Pointer 100, used it a fair amount on a few outings but didn't catch any. I like the 78 size a lot though.

A lot of times when I don't catch a fish on a new lure is because I lose it on the first day haha. I bought a bandit squarebill, and I really liked the action of it, caught a fish and then lost it

I picked up the original Creme worm, wanting to go old school after reading about their long history in an issue of Bassmaster. It just looked so natural at BPS that I couldn't resist buying a pack. I was unable to get bit on it. Would have been cool to get bit on the worm that started it all. Maybe next year.

Same here. Got 2 scatter raps never caught a thing on em. Also got a few bx jointed minnows, nothing on those either. Sticking with shad raps and dts.

Does it count if I have lures I bought but haven't used yet? The only thing I can really think of is a Bull Hearing. I tried to fish it but I am just not a fan of it and never got bit when I did use it. But then I put it down and pick up a TT and its the opposite.

Bought a couple Real Prey swimbaits that I love the action of, and I can get hits on them, but I've only managed to stick one little 14 incher on them so far. 

 

Other than that, the few other new lures I tried this year have all been successes.

Swimjigs. I know its just a matter of time before I catch a bass on one of these, but I have had no luck yet.

Mine was last year. Tried an A-rig, first cast...hung up...broke off...gone. Never bothered with one again.

I couldn't count the number of bass I've caught on the old creme worm. When I started bass fishing there weren't a lot of different worms to choose from.

Blade baits, spy baits & LJ crankbaits didn't work for me at all. They just plain sucked.

The Rage Tail Structure Bug.  I had very high hopes for this bait, but it just never produced for me like the Missile Baits D-Bomb.  I know a lot of people on this board seem to have a lot of success with it, but it just didn't work for me.  I gave away 2 packs of them to a guy in my fishing club.  He wasn't able to do much better with them either.

I've tried the new rapala scatter rap (shallow) and caught a few. Though do wonder. Not the quantity I would like. I've tried different retrieves. It seem to produce better when I used it like a jerk bait. Small constant twitches over structure ....a continually retrieve I never had a strike with it.... 

 

I also tried one of the new higher quality wake baits.  Did not like it. Did not have a strike on it.  See it as a real specific set of conditions bait.  Where most often either a buzzbait up top or a shallow crank or swimbait would work better.

Another lure I bought this year... The Rapala BX Waking Minnow. I saw it come out and instantly bought two of them because they looked really good. I like the action on it, but I didn't have any luck on it.

D-Bombs are still the best for me also. They might be impossible to beat IMO. Don't sleep on the missile craws also. There really killer and slip down into anything.

I can't believe spybaits never worked out on Erie for those smallies. I would think they would kill it. I have had moderate success with the DUO 80.

I believe spybaits would work on Lake Erie. My last club tournament out of Geneva the boater and I each had a spybait tied on one of our rods, but the moment each of us tried to use it the other would get a bite with a dropshot. Needless to say we abandoned the spybaits quickly.

It was the old "if it's not broken don't try to fix it" situation.

I hear that on the dropshot. It is in my opinion the best fish catching technique there is.

Spinnerbaits, Just cant get bit on one. Ive had 1 pickerel hit em and thats it. Now I have learned and have been successful this year with jigs and topwater frogs....One step at a time.

River 2 Sea S Waver, Jackall Gyron, and a few other hard swimbaits like the Spro BBZ. I think it is my lack of courage/confidence to throw these lures where they need to be placed, and also I am not sticking with them long enough as I know fishing larger baits is about larger fish and less strikes....I have not purchased any "Duds" this year but I rarely blame a lure or bait, I typically assume I just do not understand it yet, or like everyone else, I try new things when striking out....Hard swimbaits puzzle me, but then again, it took me awhile to like soft swimbaits as well. I need to fish with someone who is a dedicated big swimbait guy or gal.

 

When you say blade baits, do you mean the "Silver Buddy" blade baits, or Vibrating jigs or "Chatterbaits"....I know alot of people have mixed reviews on bladed jigs but I think it is one of those lures that you really have to want to learn and fishing it can be tough especially if ripping it free all day, and chunking a 1/2 ounce version with a big trailer as they have alot of drag...I have been wanting to buy some "Blade baits" like the "Gay Blade" Silver Buddy etc...I still use my little George here and there and it can be a good lure at the right time.
