St Croix Premier Spinning (Ultra Light) (New Trout Setup)

Hey all,

 

Im looking to get the St croix premier spinning rod with ultra light power for trout fishing in streams and creeks.

Anybody have any experience with this rod?

Also i am looking into pairing this rod with the Shimano Sedona FD, http://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Sedona-FD-Spinning-Reel-SE1000FD/product/10203500/

I was thinking the SE1000FD model would fit nicely.

Looking for opinons/experience with this reel

I've had a 5'ULM premier and a 1000 Sedona combo for UL fishing. Served me very well and caught hundreds of trout. Now I have a 6'ULF avid and a 7'ULM avid. If I had to use just one it would be the either the premier or avid in 6'ULF

I haven't used the premier, but I have a 6' UL St. Croix Trout Series spinning rod that I use with 2lb P-Line for trout, and It is the best rod that I have found for protecting light lines. Also makes a fun bluegill rod.

I've switched to that rod when i saw it yesterday. Fits my purposes better

I'm It really is a great rod. I have actually landed small steelhead and even a 4lb carp with it. Great little rod.

What's the action of that trout series rod?  Is it a fast/x-fast rod or more moderate bend?

More of a fast action rod, with a little bit of flex at the tip. Casts light baits very nicely.

OK, thanks.  I'm looking for a perch rod but would prefer 6'6" and extra fast action.  I'm weighing all of my options and considering price.

I have had tons of issues with small shimano spinners lately, returned 2 sedonas and a sahara 1000 to the store because they weren't smooth at all, very hard to reel (took apart, cleaned off grease, re-greased gears and oiled bearings, didn't help) there were some reels on display @ the store two days ago, sienna, sedona, sahara, and stradic 1000, they ALL felt very stiff and hard to reel. I used to be IN LOVE with all shimano spinning reels, I don't know what to think now though...
