What Would You Recommend

I have a crikett 22 and i am planning to get a scope for it(i have to buy the mount yet and here it ishttp://www.midwayusa.com/product/353922/crickett-1-piece-3-8-rimfire-scope-base-crickett-single-shot-22lr-matte?cm_vc=ProductFinding. I dont want to pay more then $60. It would be sorta nice to have a red dot scope but those dont zoom in close. For this reason, i wish there would be a scope under $60 that would zoom in, have a red dot, and have the options of the black crosshairs. What do you think would be best for me?. Peep sites are very hard to shoot far with. I have used cheep red dot scopes and i dont like them so i would want a more expensive one that you can see the dot in sunshine. I think it is removable mount. I just has holes that i have to screw in the mount and put the scope on top. I would like a red dot the would magnify but i think those are to expensive.

Well dang, sure glad you're not learning from me.  I require folks to shoot with iron sights first!  1" at 100 yards is very easy to do with peeps.

I was going to recommend an airgun 'scope as they deal with recoil better (technical; forward and reverse recoil both on an air rifle), but I saw this one.

 

For hunting, you will not need or want more than 4x magnification, and lots of times less than that.

 

I have a heavy barrel .22 rifle that can shoot very, very finely.  It has a 4.5x - 14x Mueller 'scope on it.  (Were you in the market for something more, I'd recommend the Mueller as a good mid-range 'scope.  It's a couple hundred bucks, though.)

 

I shoot squirrels out to 100 yards with this setup.  I did 150 yards or so once, but felt afterward that it was just too far and intentionally limit myself.

 

I'm recommending the 2.5x on the basis of the probability you're using supersonic loads and are therefore likely limited to 40 yards.  At about 40 yards, supersonic go subsonic, and as they pass through the transonic barrier, they destabilize.

 

Also, squirrel further than 25 yards or so is generally pretty rare unless you set up specifically for longer range.  For example, I use that heavy barreled .22 to shoot 50 to 100 yards from a static position.  If I go closer, I use my bow with small game heads.

 

With that 2.5x 'scope I recommended, you're not going to have parallax adjustment to mess with.  Being a shotgun 'scope, it should be set at 50 yards parallax.  Neither will you have variable power to try to adjust.  This is basically a point-and-shoot that you can start with.

peep sites are almost impossible to shoot in the dark because you cant see through the circle very well. That is why i wanted a red dot. I would still like a red dot scope:). I want one because right now we have trouble with skunks and it is not nice using a shotgun because the skunks stink up the place, where as a rifle, if you hit it in the heart, they say they wont spray then.(if you didn't know, skunks come out in the dark) I just love red dots. Would you have any recommendations for that? Another thing, when i shoot ground hogs, it is usually in the evening so the red dot would be easier to see? Maybe i should just go with your advice!

My predator hunting guns and my coon guns all have 3x9 scopes most are 40 objectives but my coon gun is a 32obj a typical rimfire scope I see fine with it in low light and night shooting(with a scope mounted light) but I have killed fox on full moon nights without a light.

Red dots are more for quick acquisition shots moving targets and such not really precision. Most red dots I see are 5moa that's a big dot and big area. If you get a red dot keep it on the lowest power setting possible keep the dot dim and small it's the most accurate that way.

A red dot, as Clayton mentioned, covers a large area.

 

This is the 'scope I had on the Romanian M-69:

 

 

I think it's made by the people who make Centerpoint now, but I can't prove that.  It was a fixed 4x and had an illuminated reticle.  This setup made for an excellent raccoon gun.  Don't ask me why I no longer have it!

... most likely the Savage but I am not 100% sure.  I seem to remember working a lefty bolt.  That group is more than 20 rounds.  I just kept changing magazines until I got tired.

 

I also flat don't remember if the fliers were me or the ammo.  I'm going to blame myself, though.

 

But that top rifle had an IR 'scope.  Look for a fixed Centerpoint.

Just get a little centerpoint 4x32 airgun scope, should be perfect for plinking and pest control with a crickett. And at least you don't have dogs trying to attack the skunks, my shi-tzu thinks he is 200lbs and tries to fight everything, he got sprayed and after numerous baths with all sorts of suggested remedies he still smelled for two weeks. Right when he quit smelling bad, our lab attacked one on the way to a duck hunt and got sprayed too   .
