Actually, the name's Darren Kayak Fishing is how I fish. I have a Native Ultimate 12, rigged out with a Minn Kota trolling motor, steering controlled via feet. Kayak fishing is a blast, and well worth the time and effort especially if you don't have $$ for a boat (neither do I). Do a quick search here and you'll find a LOT of info from all us kayak fisherfolk. There are a lot of us on the forum. As well, we're all more than happy to help if you have any questions. There's a great kayak group down in Austin, their site is ack.com - Austin Kayak. 1 Quote

Super User Darren. Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 Awesome! Thanks again Darren, I am going to start doing some reading!!! You bet, Colin. I mentioned ACK since you're "not that far" and could take advantage of when they have demo days. You can get some quality time actually trying out different kayaks to find the one that most fits your style. That's really the best way to do things. We all have different brand affinities which does you no good because you are the only one who can decide what is right for you. Quote

I have been to Bass Pro, Dicks Sporting Goods, and many other places to test out what I like. Just gotta find that magical ONE haha Quote

Just gotta find that magical ONE haha I did that as well. In fact, my starter yak was from a big-box store. It wasn't until I did research and actually visited a kayak store, talked with the seasoned fishermen/women there and got some sit-in time that I discovered what was the right fit for me. Unfortunately, I did not get to do a demo days, my sit-in time was doing so in the store, in the models they had on the floor. Demo days are great because you get on-the-water time in a bunch of different yaks. Very cool stuff. I still think I would have ended up with the Native Ultimate, even so. 1 Quote
