Big Fish Small Pond Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Hey Bass Resource, So I am still on the fence on which of these three casting rods to get: *** *** Black Casting Rod 6'8"-7'2" MH/F Fenwick HMG Casting Rod 7' MH/F BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlite Casting Rod 7' MH/F I would like to know what baitcaster reel under $100 you guys, personally, would put onto one of these rods. Also, if you would like to share why you would put that reel on said rod(be it balance, casting distance, feel, etc.). Feel free to be detailed and share any expericence if you have used one of these rods with a certain reel. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 6, 2014 Super User Posted November 6, 2014 Hold it, right now TW is having a Laguna sale, from 130 to 99.99 and free shipping. Quote

CarolinaBoy4Life Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 My vote would be either a BPS Pro Qualifier which is a tank of a reel and probably one of my favorites or you could go with a Diawa Tatula Quote
desmobob Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 You can find Daiwa Tatulas for about $95. They are S-M-O-O-T-H and solid reels with a great braking system and a steal at under a hundred bucks. I bought one this summer and plan to buy more. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 6, 2014 Super User Posted November 6, 2014 Lexa? or maybe http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/146069-lews-speed-spool/ That ! Lexa. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 I'd spend a little extra and grab a Diawa tatula, they can be had for around 120$ if you look around and sometimes even less than 100$ It's a great reel, I'd look into it Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 I would fish the Carbonlite if you can find them on sale for the $99 price. And if you can find the Quantum Kinetic on sale somewhere for $100 I would go with one of those as well. Have 2 of them and they are great work horses as well as the Carbonlites. And both reels come in under 8oz (5.9 carbonlite and 7.5 kinetic). Also can look at the Pinnacle Producer LTE. The reviews on here all seem to be very positive and they are right at $90 and come in at 5.75oz. 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 Hey Bass Resource, So I am still on the fence on which of these three casting rods to get: *** *** Black Casting Rod 6'8"-7'2" MH/F Fenwick HMG Casting Rod 7' MH/F BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlite Casting Rod 7' MH/F I would like to know what baitcaster reel under $100 you guys, personally, would put onto one of these rods. Feel free to be detailed and share any expericence if you have used one of these rods with a certain reel. I have *** Black rod (7'1"M/F) and Tatula reel To me they do NOT pair well together at all. Whats wrong is a combination of the weight size of the Tatula and the small diameter of the *** handle. The combo has a sense to tilt to the handle side of the reel in hand. Letting your grip loose, reel wont stay upright so well. I need to squeeze too much to keep it from doing so and over a days use is bothersome. Now putting a smaller reel on *** like 50 size reel helps with this even a larger 150 size reel but lighter than Tat makes a noticeable difference. The Tatula on a rod with larger handle say Quantum Smoke rod also works out better. So individually they are ok, paired together not so much. Quote
Poolshark Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Citica is as cheap as I've learned to go. Or a used curado. Though, I have heard good things about the bps pro qualifier on this board. Am I the only one who loves round reels?? I own several abu 4600 c3s that I like a lot as well. I know they are heavy, but I like them a lot. They can be found used and are super easy to service. Over time I've replaced the bearings and are excellent casters. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 There are all kinds of reels you can find in this price range. *** has a great article about low cost casting reels, but the one I would recommend to you is a Lew's Speed Spool Reel. At $99 they are I your price range, and are loaded with features, including 10 bearings, 14# of max drag, custom knob handles, and are quite lightweight and palmable. They are very solid reels. I would also recommend the Bass Pro Shops Reels, or Cabela's reels made by Daiwa. They have less of a following than the BPS brands, but they are feature loaded for the price. Many of them are on sale right now. But the best in my opinion is the Lew's. Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 X2 on the Carbonlites. After the kink's were worked out from the grinding issue people were having it is a darn good reel and the lightest reel I own. Got some of the original Gold Carbonlites and two new Black Carbonlites and both are good reel's. I got mine on sale $99 from BPS and it was a steal Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 I have a full breakdown and review coming shortly of the Pinnacle Producer. At $90 retail, that would fit your budget. Not a bad a reel, either. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted November 9, 2014 Super User Posted November 9, 2014 BPS PQ hands down. Lew's Speed Spool is another good one and the Shimano Caenan isn't bad. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted November 9, 2014 Super User Posted November 9, 2014 There are current gen. Daiwa Excelers all over ebay NIB with free shipping for less than $70. You can't beat that with a stick right now, and the $99 Lexa's from TEW are a close second. As for your rod, I have Exceler's/Lexa's mounted on a several rods, Fenwicks (Elite Tech's, HMX's, HMG's), Berkleys (Lightning Rod Shocks, E-motions) and Abu's (Vendettas Veritas's) and they feel good, look good, and work good on everything.
