Lucky Craft Man Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I know it's not winter yet (these dumb threads usually crop up around winter), but I was just thinking about all the various fishing situations I have been in and there is just one that keeps coming back in my mind as my absolute favorite. I really loved casting huge lures for Fall Musky on Lake St. Clair, or drifting a size 26 midge on the San Juan River with snow flakes falling all around in the Winter, or throwing hollowed bodied frogs over huge mats for summertime Largemouth in the South, but the one experience that I just can't get enough of is Smallmouth Bass fishing on Lake Erie (Spring, Summer, or Fall). Just being out on the huge lake drifting, or holding on a small rockpile, or trolling a contour while casting are just the definition of pure Awesome to me when it comes to fishing. I love all types of fishing and actively engage in all forms, but those Lake Erie Smallmouth just keep calling my name. What specific fishing situation really holds that special place as you all-time favorite? 2 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 There are so many that I can't even begin to list them all. My favorite fishing of the year is when the topwater bite is on for stripers in the fall. Nothing like catching a good striper on a popper with light/medium tackle in heavy current. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 4, 2014 Super User Posted November 4, 2014 I like it when there are fish in the water. 4 Quote
kikstand454 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Any fish, on any topwater. But I really, really like stalking tailing redfish at first light in my kayak. 1 Quote

BasshunterJGH Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 My favorite fishing situation would probably be frog or senko fishing in a small lake or pond. 1 Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Big steelhead + tiny creeks + light spinning rod. Quote

Super User geo g Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 My favorite fishing situation would be frog and swim bait fishing in the morning and late evening in the Everglades and Okeechobee over massive weedy flats. When its on, it can be magical. 2 Quote

Super User F14A-B Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Golden Shiners in Florida is too much fun! I simply love it. Big topwaters in Florida are also a great joy, around here probably sauger, big flatheads in the Ohio river, I love to fish, I go after what's available, I'm not a Bass Snob, lol.. I do love it though. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Drifting down the Tennessee River with the colors of fall. Primetime for my favorite fish and perhaps a new World Record! http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_record.html Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Watching the sun rise on calm waters and getting to see the begging of a new day...."another gift from above". Favorite place was running up the Columbia River in north central Oregon at first light chasing smallies and feeling the current tug at your boat and the anticipation of that big un Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Schooled up smallies on a topwater bite! Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 I love burning buzzbaits over weed patches in the fall on any given lake. I love throwing crankbaits up to rock islands in the spring in Canada for walleye. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Any time I can tear em' up on a Square bill! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 5, 2014 Super User Posted November 5, 2014 Those Lake Erie Smallies are indeed special & no doubt Addicting. I have become somewhat obsessed myself - and I will never be able to Thank Mr D Hottle enough. However, after thinking about all the different fishing situations & ways to fish, my favorite has to be Chunking & Winding - something - anything; doesn't really matter where, when or what species I after or what I'm throwing. There's just something about making long casts and spinning that reel handle over & over that pushes my "this is cool" button. So if you think of all the baits / techniques that covers, there's no doubt I'm smiling quite a bit. This is not to say, however that I don't enjoy many the other presentations, I do, just not as much. A-Jay 1 Quote
