I throw some weighted swim baits that look just like those for stripers in salt. Have had luck... Don't see why they wouldn't work.

Because its a gimmick bait.  Flying Lure, Helicopter Lure, Banjo Minnow, Mighty Bite, insert dumb name of next gimmick bait.  IMHO gimmick baits don't work.  Stick to what's proven to catch fish.

The banjo is no gimmick that thing really is a fish catcher. I have caught fish on flying lures also although I was super young when those came out. I bet flying lures would work pretty good as a pitching bait. Areas along the bank where I know the ground is eroded away and goes farther back then just the edge you can see. They might get way back there and get those fish to bite where a jig or t-rig might not get close enough to them. Banjo minnows catch fish no doubt.

Flying lure and Banjo are actually very good baits.

I don't think I have ever used an artificial lure that didn't catch fish, given time.  I'd be happy to use the Might Bite if I received it as a gift, doubt that I would buy it.

I caught 1 fish on the flying lure and 1 small little dink on the banjo minnow.  Granted I didn't fish either of them very long.  I didn't try the helicopter lure, that one was way too out there.  I am not saying that Mighty Bite won't work.  If I got it as a Christmas gift, I wouldn't be upset and I would fish with it.  I would never tie one on for a tournament though and I wouldn't buy it on purpose.  I guess I also don't like the fact that I have to order more of them from the company.  I can't just go find Mighty Bite plastics at the Tackle shop or on TW.

I alway's thought the Banjo minnow was a joke since it came from an infomercial, but when I was in High School my Fishing buddy purchased them and at the time I was all about Spinnerbaits,Buzzbaits, and Power Worms, and learning the Jig....Swimbaits were never on my radar but I watched him simply cast and reel with those things and I remember they had a silly way of hooking them, but He caught fish on them all day long and at a similar pace to what I was using. The colors were silly imo, but the Banjo Minnow was nothing more than a segmented swimbait that was well ahead of it's time and belive it or not it is still one of the best selling fishing lures on some sites and I am guessing they still hook the person who only fishes a few times a year since swimbaits have come along way.

 

Like everyone said, I would never buy the set but I know that lots of people do, I have not seen them in person myself. I would never tie one on unless I was getting clobbered and I could say with certainty that it was the strobe lights working.

 

If you have ever seen the Blaze Lipless cranks which have a flashing light inside (I was given one as a gift and it is now on a Keychain" as I just don't buy the blinking lights and think it is too much, but who knows.....When they went on sale for $1.99 at a shop here locally, they sold out but I would also have a hard time tying on a Blaze lure before any lipless crank in my box even the one's I never use....

 

If fish are feeding, I am sure they could work, and for saltwater, If the mackeral or Bluefish are hungry, then they will work for sure.

Sound Bite

 

A jig and a sound chamber to use on a Carolina Rig. Still have that kit somewhere, never used it.

The guy who invented the banjo minnow makes frogs now. They have his frogs on TW and they are good frogs. I had one of his frogs that he hand makes years ago but someone lost it and I never replaced it. They are very expensive as far as frogs go for the hand made ones. I think I paid like $30 or more but some are even more expensive. They catch fish no doubt and thinking about it I really should buy another one. It was one of the best frogs.

Banjo minnow does work for sure. But flukes and other soft jerks work better in every way. They cast better, sink better, more weedless, and a better hookup rate.

Be the last thing to use for mackerel of bluefish, they would last one strike and be toast.  Mackerel have lots of sharp teeth closely spaced together, bluefish have jaws like a vise.  Bests lure for both fish is a spoon, you may get cut off  but a spoon won't be damaged.  I'm sure the Might Bite would fair well with snook and tarpon as they inhale just like a bass.

Yeah I've even had hard plastic plugs crack after landing a few bluefish.
