So as I was sitting here I was thinking about it. I like to travel myself, and love to fish. And I know there are days here where I want to go out, but sometimes the mood strikes where you dont want to be out alone, or maybe you have an extra spot on your boat.

Why haven't we come up with a way for a fellow fisher to say "Hey, I will be in XXX state on whatever date, and I am looking for a fishing trip." as a forum we could reach out to our fellow fishers. You could offer a spot on your boat.

You could post that you have or are looking for a spot. The condiditons such as BYOP (Bring you own Pole).

Just a thought, but has anyone else thought about this?

It's a good idea.

But are you cutting into a guides business and do you run into some laws pushing the definition of a guide trip?

I'd take people out but would like to cover expenses so to speak. Would that make me a guide? Then I would need to comply with guide licensing issues, insurance, etc.

Some of these ride shares dont require insurance. And I mean if you are going out anyway and there is someone looking would you really be loosing anything to have to cover? If a personal friend says Hey can I come with, do you charge? I know its a stranger, but if I am already going out, and this person brings his own gear... Why not?

We all share a passion on here-bass fishing. So I could see that happening, but I wouldn't get your hopes too high as far as finding a bff/ lifetime fishing buddy or anything.

I don't see any difference in taking your neighbor fishing or a vacationer as long as both parties are compatible and licensed, whether expenses are shared or not.  I don't think this would have any impact on guides.

Guys in the KC area thread post all the time when we have an empty seat. If you really want a disappointing trip that will make you thankful for the fishing in your home state, drive down here and someone will drag you out on one of our mudholes.

Offering an open seat happens all the time in local forums. How this cuts into a guide's business is beyond me. It's always customary to offer some cash to the host. There's no law against it.

If you're looking for a place to travel to and want the chance to fish with other members, you have to look no

further than the annual Road Trip! I've only been lucky enough to make one of them, but if I could swing it, I'd make it an annual thing. Lot's of great folks, new waters to explore, and new techniques to learn.

I also seem to remember that a bunch of the members in New England had a "non-sanctioned" get together a couple of years ago. So you might want to research the chance of having such an event in your state next summer.

Food for thought.

Like Blue said... We will gladly take you on a day of Kansas 30-40 mph wind fishing. Lol!!!

The state of Kansas isn't my thing...... But I bet that tail wind lets you cast across the lake like a dream, and into it not so much.

I've done this successfully a couple of times, but rather than waiting for something to happen, I got the ball rolling myself.

After seeing some of the repeated fantastic catches / pictures in the reports section by some very accomplished BR members, I simply contacted a couple and asked about fishing together.

Long story short ~ Several new Personal best bass ~ Largemouth and Smallmouth.

Best part is I made a couple of very good friends.
