just wondering if theres any co anglers out there on the flw tour that can shed light on what doing the entire season costs? Obviously the cost and different ways to travel factor in im just wondering what it costs a guy typically to fish every event and have a chance to be in the co angler of the year race.

I looked at joining and fishing the regional tour as a Co-Angler and fish all 3 events to see if I could make it to the Championship event.  Think all 3 entry fees were $1500 total, figure lodging and food would run approx $400 each event.  Then gas money for the boat owner...rough guess $30-40 a day of fishing.  Then the travel costs.....probably could keep it under $100 per event.  So with that said for the 3 events I'd be looking at a rough est. of about $3400 so I might as well figure $4000 for the 3 events.  And if I did make it probably another 1500 for the "free" Championship (but have to fish all 3 events to qualify)

It's $800 an event for co-anglers to fish the FLW tour.  Next year is the last year there will be co-anglers on the main tour though.

gulfcaptain pretty much nailed it.  I fished as a co in the western series this year.  I planned $500 for the event and about $700 in additional costs.  This included 8-12 hours driving each way, lodging, food, boater gas, etc.  I left on Sundays and fished Monday through the tournament.  All my tournaments were out of state and gas costs were the biggest factor.  If you have tournaments local that will reduce costs big time.

 

I know cost is a huge deterrent for most people but I look at this as an investment.  For the Cal Delta tournament, I fished 3 practice days and 3 tournament days each with different pros.  The amount of knowledge I was able to get from that signle tournament far exceeds the entry fees and costs to fish it.  Plus on the last day I was competing to win a boat.  The way I look at it is I spent $1200 to get a 6 day guided, all inclusive trip on the delta. You can't beat that

Rayovac is $500 co-angler  $1500 pro.  I was refering to the Rayovac regional series on my cost break down.

thanks for the info guys! hitting the rayovacs this year if i can get in because it seems like there is a lot of priority registration im wondering if getting a spot for the series is going to be a problem however open registration for my division begins on the 20th ill be calling them at 7am i guess thats all i can do!

I pre-registered last year right off the bat.  Biggest issue was the amount of boats.  If you know someone that is fishing the pro side then you can have them sign you up wit them when they enter.  This upcoming year I may do that with one of the guys I met.  He'll fish the pro side, I'll fish the co-angler side, sign up together to get an auto entry as well I have a boater where if you don't you're playing the wait game (even if you do sign up for all three). Plus the travel expenses will be split and the best part, one event is less then 30min from his home.  Also I didn't fish the last event this year as well their wasn't enough boaters entered to pair me up.  But I do give FLW credit, they did refund my deposit although I wasn't expecting to get it back when I withdrew from the event since I didn't have anyone I new that was fishing it on the boater side and couldn't get a straight answer if I was going to be able to fish it or not.  Didn't want to make a 600mi drive to find out if I could fish or not once I got there.

 

Also, ask where the offical housing is going to be at each event and normally there is a discount for lodging there.  But you're going to have to book early to make sure you get a room.
