dam0007 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 See a deal right now on both of these want to snag one for a Christmas gift for someone. Is the Saros much better? Also do either of these have a worm gear or the disc thing? Thanks Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted November 1, 2014 Super User Posted November 1, 2014 Saros, Direct Drive, X-ship, Rapid fire Drag, I like it especially in smaller sizes. Quote
ColdSVT Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 I like the Saros better than the new symetre...and for a few extra bucks its a good buy imo Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 1, 2014 Super User Posted November 1, 2014 I own both. Get the Saros. Quote
dam0007 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Ok so update... Got a extra gift card and they let me stack a bunch of coupons. Meanwhile my friend ended up getting the reel he wanted himself, so I grabbed a Plano, bunch of lures and line for him. However lol I did grab myself a Symetre they didn't have a Saros in stock. But for $65 i figured what the hell. Lol Symetre is kinda rough reeling, noisy, and when you open the bail the rotor doesn't turn all the way to the left like all spinning reels, allowing space to finger the spool. Is this typical with the Symetre due to the price point??? I know I'm spoiled with CI4s but what the hell? Should I return it and try another. Btw this didn't come in a box it came in one of the plastic packaging things that's a pita to open. Thanks for input Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 4, 2014 Super User Posted November 4, 2014 I have a Symetre and a CI4 and while the CI4 is a smoother reel, my Symetre does not have the problems you are describing. I don't quite get the bail problem yo are referring too either....I have no issues feathering the spool with my finger. Quote
dam0007 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 When you flip the bail the rotor doesn't turn to the 10pm position so the arm is in the way for your index finger. Once it's open it doesn't spin Quote
dam0007 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Yup definitely a lemon, just played with it for a few. When I disengage the anti reverse switch. Zero problems. Sucks but oh well I'll swap it out tomorrow. Quote
dam0007 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 No more 2500s in stock going with a 3k Quote
dam0007 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Update: just got home with the 3000 and Call of Duty hahaha zero issues with this reel. When I showed the guy at the counter what was wrong with the 2500 the sounds were actually louder and a grinding developed. Strange. Now to the 3000. This is a pretty d**n nice reel for the price point. I had a older Symetre years ago and it was just "a decent reel" this one however feels much sturdier and smoother. For what I paid this was a steal. Can't wait to get in the water and try this out. Quote
fisherrw Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 saros is a great reel don't have the symetre but do have the sahara and theres a big difference there!! Quote
aprestonSEK Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 The Stradic FJs are my favorite and not too expensive. Quote
