Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Hit the Ct. River yesterday for a few hours of crappie fishing. Ended up with maybe 2 dozen fish each (2 fishermen) of various species. One of them was this fine brute (on 4# test rig no less): And of course, some of our target species as well: Biggest producer for the day was a chart/black/chart roadrunner, a custom tie by a member of another forum. Lots of fun and action on a splendid fall day. Hope some of you are able to get and enjoy it soon. Predicting SNOW for Saturday! 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 I was out this past Sunday and the weather couldn't have been nicer. We found crappie and white bass hugging the bottom in 18fow. A lot of drum mixed in as well. Wherever we found schools of bait, we found fish. 1 Quote
Crappiebasser Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Nice catch. There's nothing better than fighting a big fish on light tackle. Quote
guitarglynn1 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 How long did it take you to say to yourself " this aint no crappie "? lol Nice catch man! And on 4lb test must of been one fun fight! The crappie action has been picking up out here. Saturday morning they were all over my 3" senkos. Love catching them on ultralight. And I seen the snow forecast :-( First it showed very windy, then snow, and now rain. My guess is it is just going to be a sucky day. :-/ Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 29, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Well, I've caught my share of northerns over 40 years of fishing, so when my jig just stopped dead on the retrieve I knew right away what it was! With the water temps in the low 50's right now, the fight wasn't as spectacular as it would have been in summer (my favorite time to fish for northerns), but it took me a few minutes. We're actually hoping for colder water condition anytime now, so the big "bull" yellow perch start coming in shallow. 1 Quote

I have just started fishing in a spot with pike so I hope to catch a pike as nice as that one :-) Have a taste for yellow perch? I have heard it is among the best tasting fish but I am not a big fish eater and I throw em all back. But I have been catching a lot of yellow perch lately from shore. In fact my first cast on a rapala countdown on monday I had a yellow perch on it within about 3sec of it hitting the water. I was catching them consistently all summer and then things slowed, but the past couple weeks I have caught maybe a dozen of them. They won't leave my 3" senkos alone lately If you catch any nice ones I hope you post up pics so we can check them out Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 30, 2014 Author Super User Posted October 30, 2014 I dearly love fishing for those big yellows when they come in. I don't eat yellow perch - or any freshwater fish - anymore. Strictly CPR. They put up a tremendous fight, which is what I go fishing for! Unfortunately, as the water temps get down in the low 40's to mid 30 degrees, we get an increased chance of ice closing off the lakes, so fishing for these big yellows doesn't last long. 1 Quote

Its all about the fight for me too! I love catching yellow perch and I fish a lake that is loaded with those guys so maybe i'll get to take advantage of this brief YP surge! :-) Quote
