I'm so fancy Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Hey guys Been fishing on a off in my lifetime but more recently started using lures. Caught my biggest largemouth today. Not sure how big and how much it weighed since it was pitch black out and I had just got off work so I only brought my rod and lures. Saw a lot of minnows jumping so I took out the jig with a swimming minnow gulp Quote
Kevin Beachy Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 did you get the length....... i'm imagining 3-4lb but thats hard getting that figure if you dont know the length Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 I'd say 5lbs or more.Looks like a good fat ole healthy bass, nice job man! Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 It's approximately 20" long. Looks to be at least 4 lbs probably around 5 lb. Very nice fish! I love the black coloring on him. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Nice fish for sure. With that dollar being 6" long i would say 20" is a pretty good guess on length too.... Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Using the bill for perspective, it looks to be a heavy 4lb fish to me. Quote
Kevin Beachy Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Once i think about this way, i would guess to be 4-5lb Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Hello and Welcome to BR ~ Congrats on an excellent catch. A-Jay Quote
lectricbassman Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Nice catch and a neat looking fish too with the black coloration Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted October 29, 2014 Super User Posted October 29, 2014 Nice fish, I'd say 5+ on the weight, she looks pretty fat. I'd label it at 5lb's and look into buying a scale to keep with you for the next one. Quote
BassThumbAddict Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Nice catch. I'm jumping on the five #er train. Quote
BassSlayer71 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 That's awesome man! I caught my biggest this year also! My guess is 4-5 also. Quote
I'm so fancy Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 Thanks guys! I'll be buying a measuring tape and weight thing asap. Any recommendations on a cheap one that can get the job done? I'm also surprised the 1/8oz jig hook could catch something this big. Is the coloration normal on this guy? That was another thing I was going to inquire about. Almost like tiger or zebra markings Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 31, 2014 Super User Posted October 31, 2014 looking like a 4.5-5 to me.... that black camo he's sporting is pretty stealthy, i like it. Quote
BooyahMan Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Awesome fish. That colouration is wicked cool! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 1, 2014 Super User Posted November 1, 2014 Welcome to the forums! For some reason the pic is not showing up for me, so I can only guess based on what others have suggested. A solid 4-5 lber! 1 Quote
Chris S Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Thanks guys! I'll be buying a measuring tape and weight thing asap. Any recommendations on a cheap one that can get the job done? I'm also surprised the 1/8oz jig hook could catch something this big. Is the coloration normal on this guy? That was another thing I was going to inquire about. Almost like tiger or zebra markings Since I cant see where you are located here is some info for you: “The condition is commonly known as ‘blotchy bass’ or ‘black spot’ and has been documented occasionally in various Pennsylvania waters since as early as 1980,” said Andy Shiels, PFBC deputy director of operations. “In fact, in 1986, a nationwide survey found that the condition was present in 11 other states, including N.Y., Delaware and Maryland.” PS: I giver her any easy 5lbs! I'm so fancy Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 Went back tonight and hooked up again All hooked on the Berkeley minnow. I tried spinner with a curly and jitterbug but no bites. I also hooked up the same guy again!! No pics because when I went to grab him, my line loosened and the hook popped out good to know he stays in the same place though so I can catch him and weigh him. Thing is, ran into a couple of other guys fishing and they all catch and eat. So sad to see a big guy like him get eaten. Any advice to teach him not to get caught? Lol! Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted November 6, 2014 Super User Posted November 6, 2014 Another case of "I don't have a scale, but this bass looks to be...." Next time try at least taking a tape measure and getting the girth. Bass Resource has a free weight calculator (under "tools") that should give you a reasonable estimate. BTW, you can get a mechanical scale for like 3 bucks. My guess? 3-4 pounds. Maybe 4 1/2. Nice fish, man. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 7, 2014 Super User Posted November 7, 2014 Nice bass, Congrats! Quote
