Squirmin Wormin Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 just curious , do you plan on a newer or different routine, or way of fishing for the new year ? or maybe just stay with the same routine you've had built up or stuck with overall the years you've fished ? I've pretty much stayed with my same routine as far as technique and lures go over the past 3 or 4 yrs and haven't tried any new baits or different techniques at all since that time and done ok for this years fishing , what's your op for next years fishing routine or outlook? Josh Smith Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Yes. My exploration of the lake I'm currently obsessed with is far from complete. Josh Quote
reelnmn Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Yes. In 2012 my average 5 fish limit weighed 9lbs. 2013 - 10.5. This year it soared to nearly 12.5lbs. Determining location was the primary factor to increasing size. I plan to expand on these areas as well as go from fishing primarly finesse baits (dropshots, senkos, etc) to targeting larger fish with swimbaits, larger crankbaits, jigs, big tubes, etc. The goal is to average 15lbs per day. Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 27, 2014 Super User Posted October 27, 2014 My "routine" changes daily, not yearly. Quote
Bassun Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 The biggest change I'm planning for next year is simply to get to fish more. The last couple of years have kept me off the water more than I would like. Hopefully, I can get more time in on the water next year. 1 Quote
ColdSVT Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Next season will be my first ever with electronics...soooo yeah lol I believe i have overlooked to many spots and or not fished them as thouroughly as needed due to not having a good idea of the bottom. I did win one tourny this year and finished in the top five a few times but i was the only boat without electronicsand i think i can certainly improve my odds amd catch rate with them loll 2 Quote

hoosierbass07 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Think I'll modify my routine. Even though I've been buying more and more hard baits and experimenting with them, I need to ditch it all and stick with soft plastics. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 27, 2014 Super User Posted October 27, 2014 I don't know if "routine" is what I would call what I do. Regardless it changes often. I love to tinker and try new things all the time! 1 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted October 27, 2014 Super User Posted October 27, 2014 I dunno. As i get older I find it harder and harder to drive long distances for a single day of fishing-especially during the hot months when it's almost unbearable to be out during the heat of the day. My remedy, I think, will be to find a few favorite lakes and get set up so I can camp and relax when I'm not on the lake. As far as fishing itself goes, continue learning how to fish deep water structure and learning better how to predict seasonal movements. Quote
DFrench97 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Trying new spots, new techniques, and get into some tourneys. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 28, 2014 Super User Posted October 28, 2014 Going to try and do more night fishing. Quote
Super User geo g Posted October 28, 2014 Super User Posted October 28, 2014 Keep enjoying the experience, having fun, doing it more often, doing it at more locations, and sharing it all with some friends. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Think I'll modify my routine. Even though I've been buying more and more hard baits and experimenting with them, I need to ditch it all and stick with soft plastics. More I think about it, I need to get out to more different places to fish. This season I mostly fished at a chapter of the Izaak Walton League. They have about six or seven strip pit ponds/lakes. I've been taking my kayaks there to kayak fish because its close by. But the bass fishing has not been that good except spring time. Besides spring it has been down hill. Now there is a state park with a big lake that I've kayaked fished a few times with success but because it's so big I feel my Ride 115 is a little to hard to paddle on a big lake. I think I'm going to have to visit that lake again this fall/winter in my new sit inside and see how that handles the water. Either way - I need to get out of my comfort zones and start fishing new waters with my kayaks. Quote

GANGGREEN Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Yeah, planning to change some things up. First of all, I've got a new boat and I'm upgrading at least 5 rod/reel outfits so I'll have somewhat better gear. When I was younger and really first catching the bug, I had a habit of learning a new technique by stubbornly sticking with that technique win, lose or draw and I'd fish a jig and pig or a crankbait for months at a time, just to learn the system. I'm past that now but I really do feel like I'd like to become more comfortable again with "power fishing" techniques because I mostly use spinning gear and finesse tactics these days. Some days, finesse is best but surely there are those days when I get toasted by other guys who are power fishing. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted October 28, 2014 Super User Posted October 28, 2014 Joining a club this December and force myself to fish some new water a little farther away more often. I enjoy new adventures and going to give this a try. Quote
greendragon Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Structure scan and down scan have changed the way I fish. Instead of beating the banks like I have for years. I now like to ledge fish, it takes patience to fish deeper. I think it pays off with bigger fish and more fish. I fished a lake for 35 years and just this year found a bridge 17 feet deep and it pays off. It pays to study and know your electronics. Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I used a bait caster my last 2 outings. I plan on using it a lot more next season. 1 Quote
Squirmin Wormin Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 I'm just curious with the old year here almost done with, if your fishing techniques ,tactics,or baits gonna stay the same or change? and if so how ? some of you might, then again some of you might not . I myself am gonna try a few different lures that i have in my possession but never used for about 3yrs and will start the next years season with those and see what happens come late march 2015. Thats my plan for the new year, what's your's if you have any for next year fishing? oh yeah one other question with this topic also , if you have any plans or tactics , techniques or baits your gonna try do you think you'll do better than this 2014 season you just fished come 2015 season? Weld's Largemouth Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Squirmin, whatever plan you've got, that's my plan as well. Probably going to try that crankbait that's missing its bill.... It's been in my possession for a year now, might as well use it and see what happens. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted November 16, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted November 16, 2014 For the last 2 years I have been playing around with fishing offshore with some success. But when things get tough I have always headed back toward my comfort zone, the bank. This year I'm staying out there by myself. 3 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted November 16, 2014 Super User Posted November 16, 2014 I'm looking to work on my jig and plastic fishing, flipping and pitching, and my lipped crankbait fishing. I've struggled w/these techniques in the past and would love to improve upon them. I've been working on gearing up w/the correct tackle (rods, reels, lines and baits) to help lessen the learning curve. Quote
Jolly Green Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Now that I have a boat I'll be able to fish in more jig-friendly water, so jigs are at the top of the list for next year, followed closely by crankbaits that aren't shallow runners. I will also be able to target smallies, which I'm really looking forward to. Probably chase some muskies too, which I hear can be a great way to catch bass. Also excited to start getting to know my electronics and how to use them effectively. What about you, Squirmin? What have you had laying around for three years that you haven't tried? I don't understand that; when I buy a new lure I'm opening it on my way out of the store and it's tied on before I even get home! lol 1 Quote
BassSlayer71 Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I'm gonna work more on cranking next year. And more finesse techniques. Quote
