The *** is back ordered and won't be back around for another month or two so I'm looking at the recons now.
How accurate are their lower weight ratings? The 683 is rated down to 1/8oz. I plan on using the rod for trigged roboworms, fluke Jr's, shakey heads and similar sized baits. Would I be better suited with the 682? Maybe even the 712 or 713?
Are they worth the extra over the omens? This would be my most expensive rod purchase and will be with me for a long time.
My other concern was if my stock curado 51 would be able to handle such light baits. Maybe with a super tune?

There's a few *** ml online right now. Even a used one for an okay price.

just took a quick look, saw a handful of omens on the auction site, $99 free shipping, brand new.

Err, i should have added that the *** i was after was the ML casting. I checked the auctions and they were either spinning, medium or heavier.

OP:  Just for you I stopped at Cabela's today and picked up 2 #5 Shad Raps (3/16 oz.).  Full price none-the-less.  :sad78:   Something I seldom do is pay full price.  Tied one on a stock Curado 51E cleaned by DVT.  6# Big Game 7' MF Cabela's Prodigy.  The other went on a DVT supertuned Curado 51E.  6# Siege, 6'10" MF Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth.

Windy as all get out.  Not real strong (no white caps), but never letting up.  Not the best for testing.  All casts were made down or cross wind.  I can tell you both reels will handle 3/16 oz.  Really couldn't tell if one was better than the other.  That would require some better weather than what I had today to play in.  I did over-run the supertuned reel more than the factory reel.....which is unusual for me.  Maybe I was unconsciously casting a bit harder with the supertuned reel trying to get more distance.

Either probably could handle 1/8 oz. lures, but I am not good enough yet to handle those weights with a casting reel.

Awesome, thanks for the report!

That smallmouth is another rod I was looking at in the 2 piece flavor but decided I would look into higher end offerings. How did it handle those baits?

The Smallmouth rod handled the Shad Rap just fine.  This rod had the factory stock Curado 51E.  I was having fun before that lofting a spinnerbait (either a 1/4 oz or 5/16 oz., can't remember which) into the wind and letting it get carried downwind a good long ways.  Made me look like a baitcast reel expert.  :teeth:

I like the blank on the Recon 683 quite a bit. I think it's a slight step ahead of the ***. I just had a custom built on this exact blank. I wasn't sure what to expect but I'm pleasantly surprised. It would be great with what you intend. It's not to whippy and loads up really nice. Better than average sensitivity with a smooth transition into the backbone. My only concern with the stock version is that I have heard enough negative comments regarding the build quality to make me a little leary. Don't get the 682,its gonna be to whippy. Good luck
