Yea snook and America is still the best Democratic country in the world. So, what exact countries do you refer? China, the UK, or? I'm curious as you only say countries.

Whether it's a democracy as we have or a parliamentary cabinet system.  Deaths per 100k in parenthesis.

Japan (.06), UK(.25), Germany(1.1), France(3.0) Canada (2.4) naming but a few, all have considerable less deaths due to gun violence.  None of which are 3 rd world countries, have all the same tech and video games we do, and I'm sure they have mental illness as well.  The US is #1 at 10.2 per 100k.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I'm sticking to mine.  Less guns less deaths.

First, we are a Republic not a democracy. Second, there many other countries that allow gun ownership and do not have the killings we have...what they do not have that we have is prescription drug overload. Google and read the side effects of many of the drugs our citizens are taking..suicide, manic thoughts, aggression, bizarre thoughts, mood swings, discomfort, hallucinations, the list is literally 100 effects long, and thats for just 1 of the more popular mood "lifting" drugs. Give someone a gun that is hallucinating and having mood swings and acting aggressive, and what do you think is gonna happen? Keep the guns, get rid of the pills. A side note is that over 40,000 people die every year from prescription drugs, accidental or otherwise, guns kill around 12,000, accidental or otherwise.

I always got a kick out of the depression meds commercials at the end wen they rattle off all the side effects. "Side effects include but not limited to depression, suicide, loss of sleep, loss of appetite....." Lol just what some one depressed needs

I sense Irene coming as well

100 years ago all the boys brought their guns to school, as they all hunted...no one was ever shot..so what's the difference between then and now? Parents and prescription drugs, kids are all doped up because they're too hyper, not hyper enough, not smart enough, too smart, whatever, and the parents put them on drugs because it's the easy thing to do instead of actually trying to understand the kid or deal with them. All of these mass shootings have one common thread..prescription drugs.

Some of you might not agree with this, but I think video games are a big part of the problem as well...;)

2 logical errors with your opinion.

First, you are comparing GUN related deaths between us & countries that don't allow guns. Of course ours will be higher. We also have more automobile deaths than countries where most people don't own a car

Second, there is a very famous study that shows the murder rate in the US & Great Britain before Britain had gun control & after. Britain's rate has always been less than ours, with or without guns & the difference didn't change after they instituted gun control. Their conclusion was that a society's murder rate has more to do with its culture than whether or not it outlawed guns.

That's the truth. I can't believe we haven't closed this thread yet lol.

Right, guns are not the problem, it's the people that own them.  Place the blame where want, the fact is undeniable, lots of guns and lots of deaths.  Other countries don't have this problem on the same magnitude as we do, are they better parents or is better gun control?

It's the wrong people that are in position of them. There's more people who own guns that use them for defense and hunting than there is for gun violence, if you look at the statistics for gun use you'll see much more good is done with protection than with associated violence.

This thread hasn't broken any rules yet. As long as it remains a civil, respectful dialogue we should be ok.

Republic + Democracy = United States of America.

Not that it matters, but this country is a Republic with a Democratically elected government.  That is what is generically called a Democracy.

What is important is what causes these children to decide that the best way to handle their problems is to take a gun into a school and start shooting.  The news is already quoting this kids friends about how he was such a great kid.  So popular that he was the homecoming prince.  And then it pops up that he had been bullied, that his "Facebook" posts had changed just before this episode.  And now everyone is shocked.

Why shocked at what he did?  The shock should be why these people saw the change and didn't try to do anything about it.  Maybe some of the shock should be that this kid's parents were so unaware of what was going on in their child's life.  When you take an active role in their lives, you never need to be reactive to what happens.

Where did the handgun come from?  The kid couldn't legally buy or own it.  Is there any responsibility to be shared here by the owner of this pistol?  We can sue a bartender for giving somebody one too many drinks.  Do the families of the victims have the right to sue a person who gives access to these weapons to some kid?

Lots of questions, no answers.  Mentally ill people will wreak havoc, and some kill.  I don't really think it goes much deeper than that.

With that, topic closed, and have a Happy Monday!
