so I haven't had time to order a rod this week(so far its turned out to be really busy week)& I had just about decided to get a HMG but I have found powell endurance rods on sale for $140&the max series on sale for $120.most of the endurance models are for sale&the model i'm interested in is the 723 mh.the one that's for sale in the max series that i'm interested in is the 7'3" frog rod.is the endurance worth the extra $20?if not would the frog rod be too heavy powered for 1/4oz&up weights?  thanks.

I have two 723's and a I also have a max 703. Both mh power powell rods. The endurance series is definitely better than the Max. Better blank and smaller guides. I'd take the endurance 10/10 times. I'm assuming the max 7'3 is a heavy and if so, it's a bit stiff for 1/4oz. I have an endurance 714 too. It gets 1/2oz up duties and the 723's gets 1/8-1/2oz. Those are my all around rounds and they handle anything perfectly up to 1/2oz. The max has been given moving bait duty. Not that the max isn't a good rod but for $20 more it's an easy choice. They're clearancing out both series for the new max 3d. Which I'm actually kinda sad about because I love the endurance series. Plus the baby puke green of the Max isn't my cup of tea.

I've never fished an Endurance but I do have 5 Max rods. I'm the opposite of the above poster, I never bought an Endurance due to the purple/pink coloring on them. Back to your question, the Max 735 is one of my all time favorite rods and I've fished it a ton. It's actually a Mag Heavy powered stick and 1/4 oz just isn't going to fish well on this rod. I'd say a nice starting weight for a t-rig or jig is 3/8 oz. Then add in the weight of your plastic or trailer and the rod fishes pretty well. 1/2 oz is even better.

Use my brother's Endurance flipping stick from time to time.  Sweet rod! Its an 8' Heavy but he got a ridiculous deal on it.  He got it for $120 off TW .  I should have got one too thinking back on it. :cry4:

Never really used the 735 for anything but Frog fishing, absolutely love the rod for that. This rod has a ton of backbone and the tip is a little stiffer then most frog rods I have used in the past, but once one gets use to that, its the best dang frog rod I have ever used, in fact I bought two more as soon as I heard they where dropping the Max and Endurance line. As for what your looking for though, well I have not done such with this rod but I would think it would work okay for say flipping and pitching 1/4oz Texas rigs, but if your thinking of using such for casting 1/4oz weights, this is not the rod you want. The 723 would be a much better choice for that.

With that said the only Endurance I own is the 775 flip. Absolutely love that rod to. I use it to flip and pitch 3/8oz and 1/2oz jigs, cast 1/2oz to 3/4oz football jigs, but I have also thrown 1/4oz Texas rigs on it and it works pretty well for that also.  Its not a broomstick like the flipping rods I have used in the past, has the power of such, but the tip has just enough action to allow you to cast, flip or pitch weights down to 1/4oz just fine. If your looking for something with plenty of backbone for flipping and pitching that can also cast 1/4oz Texas rigs, you may want to check this rod out also. By far the best jig rod I have ever owned and a dang good Texas rig rod also.

I own a max 702,704, and 705, the tw exclusive deep cranking rod, jerkbait rod, swimjig rod, and 3 squarebill rods, and the endurance 775, 723, and 2 714's. My favorite line is for sure the endurance line. The 723 will be best for 1/4 oz but the 714 is the most versatile IMO.
