Issues With The Diana Tws Level Wind!?

Chime in if you use or had good times/bad times with a Diawa Tatula Twing reel because I'm regretting buying the 100 series (not the r type.)

Caught a 7# on top the first tourney I fished with it at, and was pleased with everything especially the casting distance. 2-3 trips in noticed how the top of the "T" closest to the spool always rubs the line on the reel in.....friction and wear on line...not good!

2nd.... I would make a good cast with a trick worm and by the time it was atthe boat the spool was very un level due to it sliding into the top of the "T" on retrieve.....

 

The reel overall is nice, not super durable but d**n....am I missing something, please enlighten me! Thanks!

It's supposed to touch the levelwind, that's how the line keeps in the groove. Shouldn't cause any wear issues on your line. Not sure how you hold your rod/reel/line when you fish a trick worm, but if you hold the line with your fingers you might be lifting the line out of the levelwind grove and causing the unevenness?

None of mine do anything to my line and there is no issue. It actually really nice that it touches the line. When you have slack in your line it like automatically keeps your line somewhat tight so you don't reel in loops on your spool. I kind of always assumed that's what it was for. Like working a jerkbait or frog or something where lots of time you reel in line that can be loose at times.

Once the spool is engaged after the cast,the tws turns into a normal line guide. Your line isn't moving any more than with another reel imo.

I have heard a few complaints about the line slipping up into the T usually when flipping. Every level wind touches the line so line wear isn't a factor to be concerned with. My guess is that you hold a finger under the line and/or the spool is really full causing the line to be lifted up into the T. I can see the logic and theory behind the T wing design, but still maintain that the good casting is more attributable to Daiwa's overall design and quality. It may just not be the reel for you.

Aite, well the line touching makes sense now that I've heard others feedback. I do put my index finger under the line when working a worm to feel the bite better but am aware of it may slip and try to avoid. But I stiill like the reel and concept, so we'll work on it, thanks
