I went on a spending spree a few weeks ago.  In my fishing tackel frenzy I apparently added 2 H2O XPRESS CRD+ Deep diving cranks.  I've never thrown a crankbait that large.  It is 3 1/8 inches long and 3/4oz.

I would need to buy a new setup to throw deep divers.  Any rods that you would suggest that won't break the bank?

Thanks all!

OK so I was right in thinking of a 7' MHM then.  I'll start the search.  I'll check out the St Croix rods.

Thanks guys!

Minimum: 7' mh/MOD or mf

Ideal: 7'6"+ MH/MOD a longer rod will launch a big heavy plug like that a lot better than a shorter one. It will also help pick up slack line faster and you'll get a better hookset on a long cast, or when your bait is 15-20' underwater. My personal choice is a Duckett White Ice 7'4" M/MOD.

You'll also want to look at your reel and line. A 5.4:1 gear ratio is best for reducing resistance (and keeping fatigue at bay), but I like a 6.4:1 because I get more reaction bites. Keep you line lighter, 10lb-12lb test fluorocarbon will get your bait down and keep it down.

The M/M doesn't have too much give in it?  I feel like a M/M would feel like an Uglystick when throwing a lure that size. No?

Nope! That rod is specifically designed for big deep crankbaits. I throw River2Sea Goons on it, and they weigg 7/8oz! Yes, it will load on the cast, but that's what it, and every other crankbait rod, is designed to do.

I'm a fan of the mojo glass big crankster.. It takes at least 3/8 oz to load it but for the Norman NXS and DD22, 6XD ect. It casts and fishes great.

Also a big fan of the 7' 8" MH/M Mojo "Big Crankster". I fish the 6XDs and big H2O baits on it with no problems and it doesn't break the bank.

Looking at the Abu Garcia Veritas Winch MH/M. Thoughts?

That will do fine. Great rods. Get at least a 7' one.

I picked up a powell endurance I think it's 7'4 mh/m. Works great for dt 10s and 6xds! Also makes a great spook and trap Rod. Only reason I'm mentioning it is you may find something that can excel at other applications and not know it.

10# FC for cranks and mono or braid for spooks and traps. I alternate reels so line isn't a hassle of changing. But if your focused on cranks get a 5:1 gear ratio.

Personally I throw all my deep divers on a 7'6 denali kovert mh mod, they also have a J2 series same length and action for a little less money. Both are good sticks...
