So on my mojo bass casting rod, the rubber stopper piece has come off and without it I have noticed it frays my fluorocarbon quite easily. What is that piece called? I need to either order it online or if there are any quick fixes that I can do, please let me know.

Thanks!

Call st croix and give them the info on your rod. They can send you the tip top guide for your rod. They might have the glue you will need also. You can do it yourself .

Guide insert. It's not rubber, I think it's ceramic.

It's called a rod tip-top and I actually just replaced mine this past weekend on one of my rods with micro-guides. It's actually really easy and takes 5 minutes. Here's what to do:

1. Take a lighter and heat up the current tip-top for a few second. That heats up the adhesive that holds it on there. Slide off the current tip top (with a pliers, it will be hot)

2. gently scrape off any old adhesive off the rod.

3. Shave off a very small amount of tip-top adhesive and put the shavings inside the new tip top where it slides onto the rod (http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/rod-building-epoxy/290537.aspx)

4. hold the new tip top with a pliers and heat up the base with the adhesive inside.

5. Slide the new tip top on the rod and align it with the other guides. Scrape off any access adhesive that comes out.

6. Let it cool/dry in a place where it won't get moved.

That's it!

St. Croix will probably send a replacement but I know some manufacturers take a while to send that stuff. If you can find out what size/type of tip they use and you may be able to buy it for pretty cheap on Jann's Netcraft if you don't want to wait for them to process. You'll need to order the glue from there anyways.

Hope that helps!

I got lucky when the insert came out of one my rod tips.  I saw it sliding up and down my line.  I have some super glue in my tackle box, so, I just glued it back in.  Used another rod til the glue set and went back to using it.

i have to replace these often as i always break my rod tips for some reason, either closing doors, windows on them or just crap luck.  i got tip replacements at dicks sprorting goods.   it comes in a pack of a few sizes. i cut where it was broke to make it nice and neat and the heat up the glue it comes with ( plain ol hot glue) then put it on and align it and let it sit for a few.  i havent had a problem yet with the replacement.  think in all it cost me $7

good luck

Let add: Do not twist the top to remove it. Pull straight off. Do not overheat the blank. Keep the heat source moving back and forth across the glued area. Tip top tube sizes are in 64th of an inch and sometimes mm. The new top should slide on easily but not be sloppy.  If you decide not to DIY it's a  $5-$7 job for a rod or tackle shop.

I'd call St. Croix, and ask for a tip top guide kit.  They'll know what size, and for like $5 you get the glue, tip, and instructions.

Oh ok I  even saw it slide down but I just pushed it back in and a few weeks later I noticed it missing.

Take your rod to a tackle shop and they should be able to do this for you. You also want to be sure it's aligned properly, there is some skill involved to do this.

I would go with Tom's suggestion.  If that is not feasible, then I want to add that I would carefully sand or file the glue and or thread that is surrounding the tip top. before applying heat.  I ruined a tip one time from too much heat trying to break it loose.

Nonsense..... If you can tie a proper knot or thread line through the guides, you can replace a tip top properly... If you know how to read instructions. It's not like he's trying to re-wrap a guide further down the blank.

Everything is easy when you know how to do it. The OP doesn't know much about guides based on the title of this thread. Some people are good at crafts, some glue their fingers together and make a mess.

Jeff from St. Croix Rod here. We apologize for the problem and want you to know it is an easy fix. The top guide is called a "top" or "tip top". The ceramic ring became dislodged from the frame and is missing which is causing your line fray. The entire top must be replaced and the most efficient way to to contact our Service Center at 1-800-826-7042. Ask for the Service Center and explain you need a new top/tip top for your Mojo Bass rod. We'll need the model # and the serial # (very small label located near the hook-keeper that will have 2 letters followed by 5 numbers). Once we have that info we will send you a  new top with glue and instructions for replacing the top guide. The replacement is easy. The other option is to send us the entire rod and we will replace the top. The top guide is the only guide that can be easily replaced within minutes. Thank you.

There is no way to sticky/tack a member.  I think he just dropped in to answer the question.

Best way to do it.  Takes a minute or two and it's done, no waiting for the mailman and no rod downtime.  Another matter if there is no local tackle shop, then I would do it myself.
