Weld's Largemouth Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I want to buy some red hooks for senkos and other soft plastics. Is it worth it? Does it scare fish or attract them? Pros for Red hooks? Cons for Red hooks? Does it really make THAT much of a difference than regular hooks? Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 20, 2014 Super User Posted October 20, 2014 Buy them if you want.. No pro & no con, No diff... 1 Quote
Super User Solution BassinLou Posted October 20, 2014 Super User Solution Posted October 20, 2014 Eh... Stick with nickle. They don't chip like the red hooks. when they do they turn gold. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 20, 2014 Super User Posted October 20, 2014 The old late 90's Daiichi reds hooks had very durable finishes but those hooks have been long gone except for a couple boxes I still have.. All the newer ones are like described by the above post.. I don't think there's a bit of diff, from the fishes point of view on the color. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 21, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 21, 2014 VMC's and Owner's red hooks are silver when the paint is gone, not gold. As long as they're sharp that's all that really matters. I have confidence in the red hooks on certain baits, so that's what I use. I have no proof that it gets me more bites but it give me confidence in those baits and that will put more fish in the boat without a doubt. Quote

Gami's red hooks are gold when they chip, at least they were when i last used them. Quote
dave Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 An old fishing guide I know said the gold showing through is the reason he USES red hooks. The gold flash attracted fish. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 21, 2014 Super User Posted October 21, 2014 I have more confidence using red hooks with top waters like spooks... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 21, 2014 Super User Posted October 21, 2014 Red socks give me confidence. Red hooks seem to wear out quicker. Maybe that's better now, than when I tried them. 1 Quote

Texas Pride Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 A guy doing a show on how to retrive lures at the Houston Boat Show said he only uses red hooks because there pretty Quote
PersicoTrotaVA Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Black, silver, gold, green, red, brown, purple with yellow polka dots, is it on sale? Seriously though, I think red hooks have their time and place. The Owner Wack Rig hooks are light green and I still catch fish on them. Quote
