bassboy33 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Hey guys so I have this pond by my house were I try to catch bass. So far I have seen 5 or six bass in it, but I don't no if they are the same ones or not. I have hooked one bass on a booyah pad crasher but havent caught fish since. I have been tryin frogs, texas rigs, carolina rigs and even a spinnerbait, with no results. And there is a healthy population of bluegill in it. And frogs. So is it worth it to keep trying? Is there a stable population of bass in it? By the way I am new to largemouth but I have fished smallies all my life so any advice is appreciated!!! 1 Quote
bcarter261 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Kind of hard to tell what your pond holds but you say you've caught one in there before that leads me to believe there's more. I would suggest some 4" senkos Texas rigged near cover and along the shore line. Walk the edge of the pond (be stealthy) and throw ahead of where you are 1 Quote
Jherod25 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 when ever i come to a pod that is being stubborn i typically rig up a drop shot. sometimes the only way to go is with finesse fishing. look into Senkos, Dropshot, and jigs. if your not getting bites on jigs try making the profile smaller. 1 Quote

bassboy33 Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Alright guys thanks!! I know how to dropshot well so I will try that!! Quote
PanhandleFishin Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I would try a zoom horny toad texas riged. Pull it through weeds or lillies, if there are any, they go crazy for it here. 1 Quote

Texas Hawg Hunter Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 What span of time are we talking about here? I caught a good bass two evenings ago at my neighborhood pond just before dark. I was using a small Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbait. I tend to do better near dusk. Also, try not to stand right at the edge of the bank. I've heard people say that certain types of clothing can spook fish too... 1 Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 If it's a small pond, stealth is the best thing to have going for ya. After you get there, wait about 10 minutes before you start fishing. And when you do start fishing, make sure it's with a 4" wacky senko in watermellon magic. Quote
Big Jon Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I agree on all of the above. I have fished at ponds like this. I made the presentation small, and as quiet as possible. That's what actually got me to learn flipping and pitching. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 As long as they have plenty of hard bottom to spawn on and plenty to eat they should thrive. I've pulled 7 lbers out of cow turd ponds with zero cover before so don't think little ponds can't hold big fish. Just keep fishing it. Try mixing up your retrieves. Fish tight to cover if there is any. If not, beat the banks anyway and mix up your retrieves. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 25, 2014 Super User Posted October 25, 2014 I can only address my ponds, when I want a bigger fish it's a top water lure like a chug a bug. I fish strictly mid day, I may start off with a jerkbait and catch a few dinks. I always go to the top water, catching most of the fish 10-15 yds away from the bank, they do get spooked when they are closer in. I don't catch too many on top water under 18", I may catch less but I'm catching bigger. Quote
