JT Bagwell Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Who went fishing today? What state were you in and what were the conditions? I went in Northern Illinois, water temp was 54, air temp when I got there was 45 and 58 when I left, wind was 30 mph NNW. I went out there expecting to whack them with lipless crankbaits in the grass like I have been but that only produced 1 fish today. I also got 1 on a square bill near some grass. The rest of my fish came on a chatterbait with a Yamamoto 3.5" swim bait on it, near wood. Overall I had to grind it out today but we have to get those fishing days in no matter how the weather is because winter is just around the corner. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 Went for a few hours this evening bank fishing, it was calm and sunny... I couldn't get a nibble, I was fishing a swim jig with no luck but after seeing bass striking top water I switched to a spook then buzz bait with no sucess, after that I went to a casting jig and didn't produce any. When the mosquitoes came out I called it quits haha Oh and I was fishing on moody air forces base's Mission Lake in valdosta Georiga, I don't fish there much but I know it grows some big ole bass 1 Quote
einscodek Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 in the late afternoon start with a jig first before buzzin the place sunny afternoons easily spooked Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 It was mid 50's this morning and windy (10-15 mph). Stayed windy all day and temp got up to about 70 this afternoon. Water temp 64-67. Only caught 22 bass with several presentations. 1 Quote
Snakehead Whisperer Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Fished the Potomac in DC today for smallies. Crankbait bite was slow. We got pummeled with rain the day before yesterday and it's post-frontal today. Water temp 64-67 air temp about 65-70. Water is turbid following the rain with maybe 12-15" visibility. Found fish tight to the bank in slack water pockets (not eddies, current is roaring through there right now.) Caught fish mostly dragging 1/8" round jig jeads with Zoom! 4" grubs in white, silver, and chartreuse. Also got some nice stripers on this rig, as well as drifting a popper in the current. Best fish went 2.5lbs at most. Still had a blast. 2 Quote
Jolly Green Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 One hour split between two of my favorite bank spots, five bass between 1 and 3 pounds, two pike. The 3# bass felt like a new PB but turned out just to be foul-hooked, right in the snout. I informed him that that's what he gets for ramming his food first instead of just eating it. All on lipless cranks, including a couple of 1/2 oz. Voltage baits I had forgotten I picked up at Dick's for nothing. The stock hooks are extremely sharp garbage attached to the lure with further garbage, but with decent hooks and split rings these things are effective. Good day and thankful for it; I feel like last year at this time it was -40 degrees outside already. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 I bank fished from 5:00 PM tp 7:00PM in Weston Florida just west of Fort Lauderdale. This was the most beautiful evenings in 6 months with low humidity and comfortable temps, and very little wind. I caught 6 black bass and two peacocks. Largest bass was in the three pound range. All fish caught were very tight to cover, and relatively shallow.. The peacocks were caught in the Lilly Pads and hit as the lure passes over the pads and reentered the water. All were caught on zoom watermelon red speed worms, and 4" bass pro stickos, Okeechobee color. Water was clear with no movement at the culvert pipes. I saw fish schooling out in deep water all over the lake, but I could not cast far enough to get in the action. I think it was peacocks chasing bait fish. 1 Quote
Driftb Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I fished the Upper Delaware today. Today's charter was postponed to next week due to high water from wednesday's rain. Today we had post frontal conditions with winds between 20 and 30 MPH. The river came up 3' yesterday and came down two feet today. Water color went from Gin clear to 6" visibility chocolate milk color. I fished a deep long pool with my outboard instead of drifting the river, Water temp was pretty stable at 60-62 degrees, and most of the bass are still in the fast water. . I managed to put some decent fish in the boat, but nothing big. 3 16-18" smallies and a few 11-13". I thought the spinnerbait was going to do the job, but I should have spent more time on jerkbaits, as the x-rap accounted for most of my fish. we ended up with about a dozen fish. All in all a tough day. 1 Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Went bank fishing today here in central Arkansas. Didn't catch too many fish. Was too busy chatting it up with a cameraman from the bassmaster elite series tournaments while he sat and watched me practice skipping a jig under the same dock for like two hours lol. 1 Quote

atcoha Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Planned all week to go fishing today with my son. Came down with a nasty cold yesterday at work. Been sitting in my chair all day in front of the tube. Being sick is no fun. Hope to catch up next weekend. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I went out again today and it SUCKED!!! Bright sunny skies after a cold front. It was in the 30's when I got out there. Brrrrr I did catch a few but one that was funny was a 9" Bass on a Lucky Craft SKT Magnum MR 110 (It is giant in case you haven't seen it). As soon as I saw the fish I just said "Are you freaking kidding me" there was no chance that Bass could have got anything more than the hook in his mouth. On a sad note, I lost that crankbait a few hours later. My lure retriever only went to 15' and I was a little deeper than that. Quote
Driftb Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 i was out yesterday too, on the Upper Delaware river on the NY/Pa border. Water was back down to normal level, with a slight stain. Windy again, 5-15 mph, and the front was coming in as I fished. I had one quick heavy downpour, then it was just cool and windy. The air temp dropped fron 62 down to 46 within an hour. This time I must have really been looking for a challenge. I brought a few fly rods and one spinning rod. My plan was to throw an X-rap until I spotted rising trout. As luck would have it, every time I would pick up the spin rod, I would see rising trout, despite the wind. Not one to pass up a fish with a dry fly, I would trade in the spin rod for the fly as soon as I saw that rise. It wasn't easy, but I ended up catching three cookie cutter 18" wild rainbows, a seventeen inch smallie on the X-Rap, and two chubs. Quote
Chief 2 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Eight hours on the St Johns River, Lake Woodruff and Lake Dexter today. One small LM about 12". It down right sucked! A friend fishing in his boat only picked up one also, but it was about 3 LB. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 21, 2014 Super User Posted October 21, 2014 Bass, nothing worth talking about. Other species, it was pretty good the last few days. Finally we had some cocktail blues come in with a few other species. Quote
