*Hank Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Hey guys I was wondering what you think is better the strike king kvd Hc square bill or the lucke strike rc2? I've used the strike king and have really liked it(caught my pb 6.5lbs on the 2.5) but have found that it lacks quality. Anyways if you have either or both baits please post. Quote
ABW Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I've used the KVD square bill before, and also caught my PB on the 2.5. However, I'm starting to make the transition to the Academy crank baits, just because I'm a high school kid and I don't want to spend too much on a lure. Even 5 dollars for one lure is a lot for me. The CRS square bill that they sell has sharp hooks, great paint jobs, and hold up very well. I caught 5 today bouncing them off timber and rocks, and it still looks new. I've broken a ton of 1.5's in the past, so I'm starting to stray away from them. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 17, 2014 Super User Posted October 17, 2014 I like the CRS cranks from academy too, for around 3$ a pop they are awesome. I like the KVD 1.5s too, they go off on a tangent sometimes and then get back on track which I like at times and don't like at other times. IMO the KVD and CRS cranks are waaay better than the LuckE Strike Rick Clunn square bills, I have caught fish with the Rick Clunns but I have gotten none that ran true out of the box, one that had the bill break off in timber, another that sank tail down, and one that either the hook or split ring broke on (I cant remember for sure which it was). I know a lot of people that like the lucky strike ones though so give them a try for the heck of it. 2 Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 17, 2014 Super User Posted October 17, 2014 If you think Strike King lacks of quality it´s cuz you haven´t seen LuckEstrikes for real. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 I prefer Strike King. Occasionally you will get a dud with SK,no different than any other bait company, but they also bend over backwards to make it right........ At least they always have for me. Luck-E-Strike has been very inconsistent for me. Especially the Clunn jerkbaits. And they didn't really care to hear about it either. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted October 18, 2014 Super User Posted October 18, 2014 Lucky Craft And your point? He didn't ask about Lucky Craft. 2 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 Lucky Craft Peanut Butter since we are talking about things that don't pertain to the topic. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 I will never buy anything Luck E Strike. Stick with KVD's, XCalibur XCS or order some of the Academy H20's online. They are definitely the best bang for your buck. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 Rick Clunn never had it so good as he did with Luckycraft now it's polar opposite with lucky junk co. I've not used the academy but I'm going to get a couple. Lotsa guys here seem to like them. Xcaliburs can be had a times for $3... Strikeking cranks don't work well for me... Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 I'm also starting to use the xcalibur cranks and so far they are working well for me Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 19, 2014 Global Moderator Posted October 19, 2014 HMMM, I love the Luck E Strike jerkbaits and squarebills Only issue I have with them is I can't seem to keep a French Pearl jerkbait for more than about 2 trips before I lose it Their jerkbaits are my favorite and I've had great luck with their squarebills also. 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 And your point? He didn't ask about Lucky Craft. Thought it was a typo, I have never heard of Luck-E-Strike lures. Lucky Craft has a Rick Clunn Series that I fish and am familiar with. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted October 19, 2014 Super User Posted October 19, 2014 I'm a strike King square bill fan boy so I'm a little bias Quote

Lucky Craft has a Rick Clunn Series that I fish and am familiar with. Unfortunately that line up of baits has been discontinued a few years ago. Most of Lucky Craft's squarebills are now the RTOs (Takahiro Omori's signature series). Now he's sponsored by Luck-E-Strike and has helped them develop a couple unique baits like The Freak and has his own line up of squarebills. I'm a big fan of the Green Copper Shad and Copper Perch just like I was back when they were Lucky Craft colors http://www.basspro.com/LuckEStrike-Rick-Clunn-RC%b2-Square-Bill-Crankbaits/product/10215514/ 1 Quote

slimshad Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I haven't had an issue with Lucky Strikes jerkbaits. The square bills dont deflect off cover as well as the KVD ones, but the KVD ones are iffy on quality. I have bought several KVD 1.5s that wont run right out of the package. After messing with it for 4-5 casts, I just tie on another. For the price, I guess you can do that. I can get 3 of the KVD for one LC. I have some of the Academy ones too. they seem alot like the Lucy Strike ones to me. Side note, the Arashi bill doesnt do well on clay/mudd. It is too sharp or something. Just brings in dirt. The others do not. So in my opinion the KVD square bill gets my nod. If money was no object, I would shoot for the LC. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Lucky Craft X2. That's what I'm talkin about! If your'e willing to spend a little extra get a lucky craft. The colors alone are worth it! Quote
*Hank Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 I guess I'll stick with strike king thanks for the advice! Quote
