Hey guys I'm new to the forum I was just wondering what the best casting rod under $120 for crankbaits? I have been thinking about the *** *** black. What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forums!

If you're only throwing crankbaits, I would opt for a rod with a Moderate or Moderate Fast action. I have a Powell Diesel 7' MH Moderate Fast action the I like to use for treble hooked lures. You can find these on the fish ranger for 50 dollars.

There isn't an ideal model for crankbaits in the *** Black series, but I guess you could throw them on a fast action rod if you used mono and played the fish correctly.

For a crankbait rod in that price range id go with the lews david fritts rod with foam handles. A friend has one and loves it and i tried it and liked it well enough to order one for myself. I got the 7ft mh for versatility. What size and depth cranks do you throw most often? That would help with rod suggestions. The fritts rod was 100 and you would still have enough cash for a spool of mono or copoly to put on the reel you're mounting on the rod

The skeet reese S-Glass rods work really well for cranks and can be had very affordably, somewhere in the 50-75 range, another good cranking stick is the shimano clarus and compre TC4 series rods...

*** is the best, but not for crankbaits necessarily. Premier glass is my favorite in that range. If you can wait a month until black Friday, you can get one for about $100.

Hold off your purchase for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and January sales.

You can then use the $120 to purchase a rod that retails for $150 or more.

Rods are very personal in nature. Everyone has their favorites and rating one over the other is personal preference.

Stay with the major brands and you can't go wrong.

And take your baitcaster with you to the store, check it in, and then put it on the rods you are thinking of purchasing to note how they feel and act with the reel attached.

Wait like Sam said.

However if you must buy now...

St Croix Mojo or Premier Cranking models are really nice.

I would take a LOOOOOOOOOOONG hard look at the Lamiglas Excel 2 705G.  It's modeled after one of the most highly regarded cranking rods produced in the last 15 years.  $100 from TW

BPS Crankin Sticks are pretty good and you can get a few baits if you want to hit that $120 mark  Think they are about $80 and have the action for crankbait fishing.
